Marauders open season with sweep of Goldey-Beacom

Millersville, Pa. - Behind 14 kills from newcomer Jayci Suseland, Millersville women's volleyball rolled to a season-opening sweep of Goldey-Beacom (25-9, 25-7, 25-18) Wednesday night in Pucillo Gymnasium.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville out-hit Goldey-Beacom .333 to -.029, totaling 33 kills to just 10 errors. The Marauders committed just one hitting error in the second set. Goldey-Beacom was limited to just three kills in each of the first two sets. 
• With Millersville holding an 8-5 lead in the first set, Lindsey Blevins served Millersville to nine consecutive points. The run included six kills and a pair of service aces. Millersville outscored Goldey-Beacom 17-4 the rest of the way. 
• Millersville scored the first 11 points of the second set, and Laughman served for each of those points. Her run included three aces. The Marauders' lead extended to 21-2. Suseland totaled six of her kills in the second. 
• Goldey-Beacom kept the third set close early, evening the score at 9-9 before the Marauders ripped off five consecutive points with two kills from Suseland, a kill from Blevins and a service ace from Kat Forry

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Suseland led Millersville 14 kills while committing just two errors in 21 attempts. Freshman Chyna Gubbings added four kills on five swings. 
• The Marauders delivered 12 service aces with Katie Laughman leading with five.

• Five Marauders recorded at least one block assist. Freshman Abby Perkins led with three block assists. The Marauders' lead was reduced to 20-16, but Courtney Turocy served Millersville to five consecutive points. 

NOTES
• Millersville improved to 16-0 all-time against Goldey-Beacom. Smith is 4-0 in his career against the Lightning. 
• Wednesday's match was Millersville's first season-opener at home since 2015. 
• Millersville has won six consecutive season openers. 

UP NEXT
• Millersville hits the road for three matches at Clarion. The Marauders play Ohio Dominican and Cedarville on Friday and close the weekend against Ursuline on Saturday.
