
Marauders in the Pros Update

Millersville, Pa. - Five former Millersville University baseball players are making an impact at the professional level. Tim Mayza (2011-13) has been a key bullpen piece for the Toronto Blue Jays, Chas McCormick (2014-17) has rocketed to the Double-A level just a year after being drafted. Reid Anderson (2014-16) and Brandon Miller (2014-16) have both spent a second season at Single-A. Chris Murphy (2013-15) is in his second season with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles of the Can-Am League.
Tim Mayza
Organization: Toronto Blue Jays
At Millersville: Mayza, 26, was a freshman starter for the 2011 NCAA Championship qualifying team and was an All-American as a junior in 2013 before being drafted by the Blue Jays in the 12th round.
2018 Level: MLB/Triple-A
Key Stats (Baseball-Reference | MLB Profile): 1-0, 4.67 ERA, 17.1 IP, 18 SO (MLB) / 3-1, 4.11 ERA, 1 SV, 15.1 IP, .224 BAA
2018 Highlights: Mayza made his MLB debut in 2017, and while he didn't make the MLB club to start to 2018, he has been a reliable performer for both the Blue Jays and the Triple-A Buffalo Bison. He has been called up to the big leagues six times already, and was recently featured for his travels in the Toronto Sun. Mayza has held Triple-A hitters to a .224 batting average. He has made five appearances in three stints with the Blue Jays in July. Statcast has his average pitch speed at 94.1 mph.
Chas McCormick
Organization: Houston Astros
At Millersville: McCormick, 23, was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year in 2017 and set the all-time PSAC record for hits. He was the only four-time All-PSAC East selection in program history.
2018 Level: Double-A/Advanced-A
Key Stats (Baseball-Reference | MiLB Profile): .303/.350/.400, 8 2B, 6 SB, 20 RBI (Double-A)
2018 Highlights: McCormick was a 21st-round draft pick by the Astros in June of 2017, but he has played like one of the top prospects in the organization. In spring training, he played an inning in the outfield for the reigning World Series champs. McCormick helped Buies Creek to a league championship in 2017, and after playing 51 games in Advanced-A Buies Creek to start 2018, McCormick jumped to Double-A Corpus Christi where he has hit .303 with a .371 OBP, moving into the leadoff spot in the lineup. He hit a home run in his first Double-A at bat. As of July 23, he had reached base in 14 consecutive games. McCormick is the first Marauder position player since Glenn Stitzel in 1975 to play at or above the Double-A level.
Reid Anderson
Organization: Texas Rangers
At Millersville: Anderson, 22, came to Millersville as an outfielder but developed into a pitcher. He spent just two seasons on the hill for Millersville and was All-PSAC East Second Team as the No. 4 starter for the 2016 NCAA runner-up team.
2018 Level: Single-A
Key Stats (Baseball-Reference | MiLB Profile): 3-6, 3.80 ERA, 13 GS, 73.1 IP, 63 SO
2018 Highlights: 2018 has been a breakout summer for for Anderson. In his second season with the Hickory Crawdads, Anderson leads the team's starting pitchers in ERA and ranks third in innings pitched. His 1.214 WHIP is second among the team's starting pitchers. He struck out six and gave up three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in his most recent start (July 19). Anderson and Brandon Miller squared off in June, with Anderson getting the win.
Brandon Miller
Organization: Miami Marlins
At Millersville: Miller, 23, was the PSAC East and NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year and a consensus All-American in 2016, leading Millersville to a NCAA runner-up finish.
2018 Level: Single-A
Key Stats (Baseball-Reference | MiLB Profile): 2-8, 6.17 ERA, 17 GS, 97.2 IP, 77 SO
2018 Highlights: Miller was drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 draft by the Seattle Mariners and ranked as one of the top 30 prospects in the organization through two seasons with the club. Late in 2017, however, he was a part of a trade for MLB player David Phelps. Since joining the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League, Miller hasn't been as sharp. He leads the Grasshoppers in innings pitched but has allowed a team-high in hits and runs.
Chris Murphy
Organization: Trois-Rivieres Aigles
At Millersville: Murphy, 25, was the only pitcher in league history to be a three-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Year. he was a two-time Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year. He went an incredible 33-4 with a 2.07 in his three seasons.
2018 Level: Can-AM League

2018 Highlights: Murphy was drafted by the Houston Astros in 2015 and reached Advanced-A ball before being released prior to the 2017 season. Murphy has joined up with the independent Can-Am League and Trois-Rivieres located in Quebec for the last two seasons. This year, Murphy leads the team's starters in starts and ERA and is second in innings pitched.
