CHAMPIONSHIPS OUTLOOK
• Millersville enters the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Championships with 33 entries set to compete. Millersville has finished in the top half of the field for four consecutive years with third-place finishes in three of those seasons. Millersville placed seventh in 2017, but the 2018 squad features a deep and dominant group of throwers as well as sprinters and field athletes capable of scoring. At the indoor championships in February, Millersville produced five All-PSAC finishes and scored its most points since 2008. This Millersville team, however, is built for the outdoor season and could challenge for a top-two finish.
• Sunflower Greene is one of 11 returning individual champions in 14 events. Greene swept the shot put and hammer throw in 2017, setting a PSAC Championships and all-time PSAC record in the hammer throw. Greene was subsequently named the PSAC Field Athlete of the Meet and later, the field athlete of the year. Greene followed the 2017 outdoor season with an indoor national championship in the shot put. She was also named the PSAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after becoming the first athlete to win both the shot put and the weight throw at the same championship. In the 2018 outdoor season, Greene has broken all-time PSAC records in the shot put and hammer and has been named PSAC Field Athlete of the Week four times. Greene is seeded first in the shot put (52-3 3/4) and hammer (193-11) and is seeded second in the discus (153-10), trailing only defending champion Gabby Schultz of Edinboro.
• The depth of Millersville's throws group has it in position to score upward of 60 points. Millersville throwers occupy four of the top six spots in the hammer throw, three of the top five in the discus and two top five spots in the shot put. Amanda Myers is also the No. 2 seed in the javelin.
• Myers, a senior, is looking to break through for a championship in the javelin after finishing sixth as a freshman, fourth as sophomore and third as a junior. Myers is expected to compete in her fourth consecutive NCAA Championships in May, but first, in addition to the javelin, Myers is seeded second in the hammer with a mark of 176-11. She is eight feet clear of the No. 3 seed. She placed fourth in 2017.
• Sophomore Madison Martin placed fifth in the discus as a freshman in 2017, and she is seeded fourth entering the weekend. Martin is also seeded fifth in the hammer throw. She just missed out on points last season, finishing ninth.
• Aliyah Striver has produced one of the top freshman outdoor seasons of 2018. She heads into the championships ranked fifth in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Stephanie Garner is also in position to score for the Marauders, holding the No. 6 seed in the hammer.
• After a redshirt season in 2017, Arianna Camel is back in the heptathlon looking to contend for All-PSAC honors. Camel was the runner-up in the event in 2016 and is seeded third in 2018. Her best total of 2018 was 4,209 points. Madie Tropp could also provide the Marauders with points. She is seeded seventh after posting a season-best 3,733 points.
• Camel is also set to compete in the 100-meter hurdles. Her season-best time of 14.65 has her tied for the No. 4 seed.
• In the pole vault, Erin Harman finished fourth as a freshman in 2015, and she has been a top-eight finisher three times at the indoor championships. She comes into weekend tied for 12th at 11-3 3/4, but her career best is 11-9 3/4, which would be a top-eight finish.
• The Marauders have three qualifiers in the long jump: Brianna Doherty, Kay Liebl and Destinee Holloman. Doherty's 18-7 3/4 is seeded eighth. Liebl set a PR of 18-5 3/4 just last week and comes in seeded 11th. Holloman's 17-11 1/2 is 14th.
• Millersville's sprints group has five qualifiers in the 100-meter dash. Holloman leads that group as a No. 13 seed (12.34). Holloman's season-best time is only .06 out of the No. 8 spot.
• Courtney Ingold is in the 100 and 200-meter dashes for the third year in a row. She placed fourth in the 100 in 2017. She took sixth in the 200 in 2017 and was eighth in 2016. Ingold enters the weekend seeded 15th in the 200 but less than a half-second separates No. 2 from No. 15. Ingold scored All-PSAC finishes in the 200 and 60-meter dash at the 2018 indoor championships.
• Clara Forney is at the championships in the 400-meter dash for the first time in her career, but she has competed in the 200 twice before. Forney scored a third-place finish in the event at the indoor championships. Her season-best time of 58.67 is seeded eighth. Lenaiya Flowers is 11th with a time of 59.17. Aniya Gibbs will also run in the 400.
• Millersville's depth gives its relay teams an opportunity for All-PSAC finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400. The season-best time of 47.85 is seeded fourth and was set by Doherty, Holloman, Liebl and Emonie Reviere. The 4x400 team is seeded fourth as well. The 3:56.12 time was put up by Flowers, Liebl, Forney and Gibbs.
