Lewisburg, Pa. - Sunflower Greene broke a 15-year-old record in the discus and placed second in a deep field, leading Millersville's women's track and field team on day one of the Bison Open.
Greene hit 153-10 on her third attempt, breaking Beth Lord's mark that had stood since 2003. Greene's new record stands as the best in the PSAC this season and a NCAA provisional qualifier. Greene now holds program records in the hammer throw, shot put, discus and indoor shot put and indoor weight throw. The only competitor to top Greene Saturday was Miranda Daucher of Buffalo. Freshman Aliyah Striver placed seventh with a toss 138-9--a distance that ranks third-best in program history.
Amanda Myers also bettered her NCAA "B" mark in the javelin, finishing sixth with a season-best toss of 149-1. She finished behind four Division I athletes and was second among PSAC throwers.
Millersville is back at the Bison Open Sunday.
