Marauders bounce back with blowout win at Cheyney
2/3/2018 5:17:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Cheyney, Pa. - Three days after suffering its worst loss in over 50 years, Millersville responded with its own 40-point victory. Marcus Adkison and Jordan Greene both scored 22 points, and the Marauders downed Cheyney 90-48 Saturday in Cope Hall.
Saturday was quite the bounce-back performance for the Marauders. It was Millersville's highest point output since Dec. 2 (a span of 15 games), and the fewest points allowed by a Marauder club since 2013. This came on the heels of allowing 107 Wednesday night at West Chester.
Greene made 9 of 13 shots and matched a career high with four threes. Adkison made 7 of 12 from the field, 4 of 8 from three and 4 of 4 from the line. Caden Najdawi sank 6 of 7 shots for 14 points, and James Sullivan added 10 points.
Millersville drilled 12 of 30 3-pointers, making eight in the first half. Greene scored 17 of his points in the opening 20 minutes.
The Millersville defense--ranked fourth in Division II in steals--was its opportunistic self, hounding Cheyney into 25 turnovers while piling up 20 steals, converting those miscues into 34 points.
The Marauders broke open the game with a 19-0 run that started with a Sullivan jumper 4:27 into the first half. The following six minutes was a 3-pointer barrage. Millersville made five in a row and six of its next seven threes. Three of them came from the hand of Adkison.
Over the last 16:33 of the first half Millersville outscored Cheyney 37-11. Millersville kept up its pace in the second half, totaling 44 points and leading by as many as 44.
Adkison is sneaking up on 1,000 career points, now needing just 14 to reach the scoring milestone.
Millersville improved to 8-15 (7-11 PSAC) and stayed a half-game ahead of Lock Haven in the PSAC East standings. The Marauders host division-leading Shippensburg on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. As part of the game, Millersville will host a Make-A-Wish wish reveal for 15-year-old Ryan Coghlan. Wednesday is also Wing Wednesday, and the first 50 Millersville University students receive a free meal as part of the Wings with Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Brian Hazlett.
