Wilmington, De. -- An offensive onslaught late in the first half earned Millersville a 21-11 win at Wilmington Saturday afternoon. The Marauders' win at Wilmington marked the third straight season-opening victory for Head Coach

After Millersville and Wilmington traded goals throughout the opening 19 minutes, Wilmington notched two straight goals in 10 seconds to take an 8-7 lead with 10:39 remaining in the first half. Millersville rallied as sophomore

Erin Fagan, and the midfield captain buried her first goal of the season to tie the game 8-8 with 7:53 remaining in the first half. Fagan's goal was the first of a 7-0 run by the Marauders that ended 12 minutes into the second half. Sophomore

Nathalie Sell scored unassisted goals to give Millersville an 11-8 lead with 5:22 remaining in the first half. Senior
Kristen Butzner scored the final goal of the first half off an assist from Sell before scoring an unassisted goal in the opening three minutes of the second half.
Sophomore
Sarah Leverentz scored Millersville's 14th goal of the game with 19:14 remaining in the second half. Wilmington answered Leverentz's goal 15 seconds later to cut Millersville's lead to 14-9. Senior
Sabrina Fusco and Leverentz put the game out of the reach with two goals each in the following seven minutes. Butzner and Leverentz logged assists on Fusco's two goals that came in a three-minute stretch. Leverentz followed Fusco's two goals with an unassisted goal before converting a second on Burney's assist with 11:06 remaining in the second half.
Down nine with less than 11 minutes left in the game, Wilmington's Lashay Ross mustered her fourth and fifth goals of the game to make the score 18-11 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. However, Burney, Butzner, and Leverentz each scored a goal to end the game on a 3-0 Millersville run.
Millersville earned its victory by winning extra possessions in the defense and midfield while playing aggressively in the attacking end. The Marauders forced 11 of the Wildcats' 21 turnovers while holding the Wildcats to only 9-16 on clearances. Millersville accurately shelled the Wilmington goal with 31 of its 44 shots on goal. Fusco scored five goals on 10 shots while Butzner scored four goals on four shots and Leverentz scored four goals on six shots.

Shannon Davis was credited with her first win of 2018 between the pipes. The goalkeeper registered four saves while playing all 60 minutes.
Millersville plays its next game against Holy Family University on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in West Chester, Pa. The Marauders previously defeated Holy Family 16-2 at home during the 2017 season.
