West Chester, Pa. -- The Marauders picked up their second straight win to open the 2018 spring season after defeating the Holy Family Tigers 17-4 Tuesday night.
Millersville wasted no time getting off to a lead after sophomore
Sarah Leverentz fired senior
Kristen Butzner's feed into the back of the opposing goal in the opening 22 seconds of the game. Senior
Callie Kavanaugh was fouled near the goal shortly after the first goal, and she buried her free position shot in the goal with only 59 seconds ticked off the clock. The Marauders tacked on four more goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game as Kavanaugh scored her second while senior
Sabrina Fusco scored two and senior
Nathalie Sell scored one.
Holy Family got two goals back in a period of 63 seconds to cut Millersville's lead to four with 18:13 left in the first half. The teams vied for possession while having several shots saved before Kavanaugh kick started another Millersville scoring run off a feed from Butzner with 10:32 remaining in the first half. Butzner scored her first goal of the game from a Fusco assist two minutes later. Fusco scored her third goal of the game unassisted four and a half minutes later. Junior
Erin Fagan scored her first goal of the game with 3:24 remaining in the first half to give Millersville a 10-2 lead. The Tigers responded in the final seconds of the half as they scored their third goal of the game with 24 seconds remaining.
With a commanding lead in hand, the Marauders kept their foot on the gas in the second half and outscored the Tigers 7-1 to finish the game. Millersville opened the second half with five unanswered goals from Leverentz, Fusco, freshman
Gillian Zimmerman, Leverentz again, and Butzner. Holy Family snagged its final goal of the game with under three minutes to play before freshman

Jovonna Jewell scored goals in the final 63 seconds of the game.
Millersville's offense set the tone as it shot the ball 15 times in the first half and 17 times in the second half while 29 of the team's 32 shots were on goal. The team was perfect from the free position as Fusco and Kavanaugh each converted their lone attempts. The team was effective in transition as it converted 15 of its 18 clearances during the game.
The defense limited Holy Family's opportunities as senior
Morgan Masiejczyk and sophomore
Michella Salvitti scooped four groundballs each. Masiejczyk also tied for the lead on the team with two caused turnovers in the contest.
The Marauders return to Millersville to host their home opener against Notre Dame College (Oh.) on Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m. The Falcons opened their season with a win on Feb. 25 with a 16-4 win over Madonna University.
