Ville's winning streak snapped by Bloomsburg's sharpshooting

Bloomsburg, Pa. -- Millersville's two game-winning streak was snapped at Bloomsburg after a 82-71 loss propelled by the Huskies' efficient shooting from the field and three-point arch.

The fourth quarter separated the Marauders and the Huskies. Bloomsburg started the final quarter with a 52-48 lead, but momentum appeared to be in Millersville's favor after a 8-2 run erased a 10 point Bloomsburg lead late in the third. However, a 15-7 run that started with nine minutes left on the clock built another double digit lead for Bloomsburg. Millersville tried to extend the clock by strategically fouling Bloomsburg, but the Huskies responded and drained 16-18 from the charity stripe to hold the Marauders off.

The contest between the Marauders and the Huskies was a back and forth contest throughout the first three quarters. Neither team put together more than a three-point run in the first quarter until the final three seconds as Bloomsburg began a run that extended into the second quarter. Then the game became a slugfest in the second and third quarters as Bloomsburg and Millersville traded scoring runs. Bloomsburg held nine and 10 point leads that Millersville cut down to a single possession. However, the Marauders always trailed following a Marissa Molnar three with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, and the Huskies were successful in fending off every comeback attempt by the Marauders.

Shooting, especially long range shooting, was the major difference in the contest just like the last time these two teams met. In the first match up, Millersville drained 9-18 three-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field while Bloomsburg shot 7-23 from the three point line and only 43 percent from the field. This time around, Bloomsburg drained 7-11 three pointers and converted almost 55 percent of its field goals. Millersville shot 2-8 from the three point line while making 43 percent of its shots. Millersville was forced to keep pace with Bloomsburg by shooting 23-30 from the free throw line. Bloomsburg attempted one free throw before the fourth quarter.

Freshman Lauren Lister led the Marauders in scoring with 23 points. The guard shot 6-12 from the field and 11-14 from the free throw line. Lister was all over the court as she snagged seven rebounds and stole the ball six times. Senior Alayah Hall finished second on the team with 16 points. The guard paired her scoring with four more assists before fouling out late in the game. Redshirt junior Kendra Bamberger was the final Marauder to score in double figures. Bamberger scored 14 points while snagging 12 rebounds for her fourth career double double and her third of the season.

Millersville falls to 12-11 on the season and 9-10 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Marauders still sit in third in the PSAC East Standings, but, with only two clinched spots in the PSAC East, every game will be a critical one. Millersville heads to Kutztown on Feb. 14 for a match up between number three and four in the PSAC East. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
