Marauders upset the Golden Bears 64-57 in The Den

Kutztown, Pa. -- The Millersville Marauders completed the regular season sweep of the Kutztown Golden Bears with a 64-57 victory in the vaunted Keystone Arena. Millersville moved into third place in the PSAC East with only two regular season games remaining.

Kutztown had revenge on their minds as Millersville entered "The Den" where the Golden Bears boasted an 11-2 record prior to tip-off. However, senior Alayah Hall and her teammates had something different in mind. With seven minutes remaining and the scored knotted up at 48 all, Millersville went on a two minute, 9-0, run as freshman Lauren Lister scored five points and Hall scored the remaining four while the Marauders stole the ball three times from the Golden Bears. Following the 9-0 run, Millersville never had its lead cut down below two possessions.

Compared to the end of the game, the game started in a much different direction. Kutztown wasted no time jumping to a 10-1 lead as Millersville started the game 0-5 from the floor. The Marauders showed their resiliency and went on a 13-0 run that lasted into the second quarter. During the run, Millersville earned the lead and held on to it all the way into half time. Millersville shot 44 percent from the floor after they recovered from the 0-5 drought early in the game while Kutztown only mustered 5-26 from the floor and 0-8 from the three point line.

The Golden Bears put together their own double-digit run to open the second half, and momentum was in their favor again. However, the Marauders regrouped and outscored the Golden Bears 18-15 over an eight-and-a-half minute period that featured six lead changes and three ties with the final tie at 48 all. Millersville shot 45 percent from the field in the second half while also making 13 of its 20 total made free throws during the second half. While Kutztown tried to shoot its way back into the game with long range shots, Millersville simply grinded the Golden Bears down with 14 points in the paint and 10 points off turnovers in the second half to help secure the victory.

Hall finished with 22 points in her third to last regular season game for the Millersville Marauders. The senior leader led the scoring in Millersville's first win over Kutztown this season too when she scored 24 points in Pucillo Gymnasium. On the offensive end, Hall was clutch as she shot 6-10 from the field and 10-13 from the free throw line. On the defensive end, Hall was ferocious as she stole the ball from the Golden Bears five times while also snagging four rebounds. Hall currently sits at 984 career points and has the opportunity to be only the 22nd player in program history to reach that storied mark.

Lister finished second on the team with 15 points on 5-11 shooting. After playing off the bench the majority of the season, the freshman has taken her starting opportunity and ran with it, and she has scored in double-figures in all of her seven straight starts.

Millersville returns to Pucillo Gymnasium to play its last regular season home game on Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. against Lock Haven. The team will also celebrate Senior Day and honor Hall prior to tip-off.

Before the Senior Day festivities begin, the Millersville women's basketball program will host its annual Nicole Schneider Bomberger alumni game at 10 a.m. The game will be held in honor of former Marauder player Nicole Schneider Bomberger who died of breast cancer last summer. The team will sell t-shirts and accept donations with all the proceeds going to the Nicole's Fight Scholarship Fund which will benefit Bomberger's children.
