Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Michael Rosen, Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

Women's basketball falls to No. 20 California (Pa.), 69-55

Millersville, Pa. - Despite a game-high 18 points from Lauren Lister, the Millersville University women's basketball team fell to No. 20 California (Pa.) 69-55 on Saturday afternoon in Pucillo Gymnasium.

"Considering we played a team like Cal for our first PSAC game, I thought there were some positives we can take from this game and can continue to work on," head coach Mary Fleig said. "We played very well defensively today against one of the best scoring teams in the conference. Their offense is created by their defense, but we did a good job of containing them today."

The Marauders fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play, while the Vulcans improve to 6-0 and 1-0 in conference play.

California began the game on an 8-0 run, but after a media timeout Millersville responded with an 8-2 run during which it made four of its five shots from the floor to make it a two-point game. The Marauders trailed just 17-14 after the opening quarter.

Millersville didn't trail by more than six points throughout most of the second period, but the Vulcans finished the quarter on a 13-2 run, going 6-for-8 from the floor during that stretch, to take a 38-25 lead into halftime. California did not lead by any less than nine points during the second half, eventually winning the game, 69-55.

"We responded well at the start of the game to their run and played very well for most of the first half," Fleig said. "The third quarter was shaky, but there are some positives that we are taking from this game."

Lister went 8-of-17 from the floor and, along with Kennedy Middleton, pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Middleton also went 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
