Slippery Rock, Pa. - After placing 20th in last season's NCAA Atlantic Regional, the Millersville University women's cross country team rebounded in this year's installment with its best finish since 2011, placing 13th out of 22 teams. The Marauders had several strong runs despite muddy and snowy conditions on the course.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• For the third time this season Emily Bland was the top finisher for Millersville, finishing 40th overall with a time of 26:30.00.
• Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno was not far behind, clocking in at 26:41.00 in 47th place.
• Elizabeth Rudderow (27:45.00, 81st) and Natalie Poulton (27:56.00, 87th) also finished within the top 100.
• Victoria Ranck (29:17.00, 118th), Skylar Maurer (30:06.00, 126th) and Kelley Taylor (31:20.00, 135th) rounded out the Marauder harriers.
COACH ANDY YOUNG QUOTES
• "I was excited to see our team improve every week. I think we just wanted to be more competitive than we were. Mission accomplished."
• "Emily Bland and Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno ran really smart races. They were in 60th and 70th around the mile mark and both did well moving up. Emily was able to relax and run to her capabilities today and Yo stayed consistent from her PSAC performance."
• "The course was a mud fest. I was really proud of our women for running a disciplined race today. With no seniors we are excited for the future with this group."
NOTES
• Millersville was in 17th place after the first lap and 14th place after the second.
• In 2011 when the Marauders finished 13th it was due to a loss in the tie breaker. The previous season they finished fifth.
