BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Freshman Keira Reider turned in a 13th-place finish, leading the Millersville women's cross country team to eighth place at Saturday's PSAC Championship.Â
Reider's 22:41.7 is the 14th fastest 6K time in program history. She was the No. 2 freshman finisher int he field and Millersville's first All-PSAC freshman since Shannon Cruz in 2013. It was the top finish by a Millersville freshman since hall of famer Jo Rupp took 13th in 1992.Â
"It was a great race for Keira," said Millersville head coach Andy Young. "She didn't think too much, just relaxed and moved up the whole race."
Reider was in 21st after the first 1,000 meters and steadily moved up the field, standing in 18th at the 3K mark and 16th after 5,000 meters. Â
Millersville has finished eighth in back-to-back seasons. Millersville totaled 221 points, barely edged by California (Pa.), which totaled 220. East Stroudsburg took first place with all five scorers finishing in the top 20. West Chester finished second with the individual winner, Kristina Tapia, crossing the line in 21:35.1.Â
Running second for the Marauders was Bri Pollock, who placed 29th with a time of 23:08.5. Pollock's finish landed her All-PSAC honors for the third time, and she is just the ninth Marauder and first since Cruz in 2016 to achieve that feat.Â
Bella Ruefle crossed the finish line at 23:53.7, placing her 53rd. Kira Chebishev posted a time of 24:10.2 and placed 66th. Freshman Delaney Schoeneberger rounded out Millersville's scoring with a 72nd place finish (24:18.9).Â
"Bella, Delaney, Marisa and Emma Armstrong all had strong performances today which helped keep our team score competition."
Millersville has a chance to move up the results in two weeks at the NCAA Atlantic Regional in Kernersville, N.C.
