Pitt-Johnstown downs Marauders in three

West Chester, Pa. - Millersville held late leads in both the second and third sets but could not close out the homestanding Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats in either and fell in three sets (25-20, 27-25, 31-29) Friday evening in PSAC action.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Pitt-Johnstown led by as many as seven points in the 25-20 first-set win that saw the Marauders commit seven hitting errors. Millersville, however, was in position to extend the match in each of the next two sets.
• Millersville totaled 13 kills to just two errors in the second, but it was a back-and-forth set that saw 14 ties and six lead changes. Neither team led by more than two points during the set. Pitt-Johnstown held set point at 24-22 following a kill from Caitlin Vrabel, but a Lindsey Blevins kill followed by a a block by Jayci Suseland and Samantha Miller and a UPJ attack error gave set-point to the Marauders. Pitt-Johnstown, however, rattled off three consecutive points with a pair of kills and a Millersville hitting error.
• The close of the second set was foreshadowing of what was to come in the third. Millersville broke a 15-15 tie by scoring four in a row and seven of the next eight points. A UPJ attack error put Millersville at set-point at 24-18. However, a UPJ kill was followed by three straight Millersville errors. The Mountain Cats scored six in a row to even the set at 24-24. Millersville staved off the Mountain Cats' potential winner four times and UPJ did the same three times to Millersville. But with the score tied at 29, Millersville committed two-straight errors to end the match. Millersville totaled nine errors in the third and was out-hit .244-.143 in the set.

COACH BRIAN SMITH QUOTES
• "We passed well and all these matches are battles. But we find a way to not finish. In set three, we had nin hitting errors and seven of those were after we had a 24-18 lead. We gave them an ace as well. That's crazy. That being said, we keep fighting. It didn't end 26-24. But these are lessons learned."
• "The team is young and learning how to finish. We just played last year's PSAC champs and they learned how to finish last year when they made a run and ended up upsetting Gannon in the finals, and Gannon went on to the final four. We need a few matches like the last two--but finish them. Those types of wins can turn a young team like ours."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Suseland led the Marauders with 16 kills to just three errors, posting a .371 hitting percentage.
• Haley Butler posted a season-high 12 kills.
• Kat Forry led Millersville with 21 digs.

NOTES
• Millersville's two service aces were tied for the fewest of the season.
• Samantha Miller totaled four block assists, giving her two or more block assists in each of the last four matches.
• Millersville falls to 4-10 all-time at Pitt-Johnstown.
• Forry topped 20 digs for the fourth time in the last five matches.

UP NEXT
• Millersville travels to PSAC Central-leading Shippensburg on Saturday.
