Jade Farquhar's career-day powers Millersville past Ship 70-66

Shippensburg, Pa. -- Junior Jade Farquhar scored a career-high 24 points as Millersville won a tight match up at PSAC East rival Shippensburg 70-66. The Marauders maintained their fourth place ranking in the division.

Farquhar's efficiency helped propel Millersville after they watched a 14 point lead vanish in the third quarter. The guard finished perfect from both the three point and free throw line throughout the game while shooting 6-6 from the field in the first half and 50 percent from the field in the second half. Farquhar's impact extended to the defensive end of the court as well. She snagged five rebounds while stealing the ball three times and blocking one shot.

Millersville shot the lights out of Heiges Field House to begin the game. The Marauders lead by as much as ten in the first quarter while shooting 11-15 in the opening quarter. While Millersville's shooting returned to Earth during the second quarter, the team's defense still forced six turnovers. Turnovers were a big part of the first half as the Raiders were forced into 10 turnovers while Millersville took care of the basketball and only conceded three. The Marauders outscored the Raiders 12-10 in the second quarter with every Millersville basket scored in the paint. The teams would retreat to their respective locker rooms with Millersville leading 39-27.

Shippensburg came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders. The Raiders outscored the Marauders 20-12 in the third quarter on 50 percent shooting. PSAC freshman standout Ariel Jones netted seven of her 22 points during the Raider run. Millersville held a slim 51-47 lead over Shippensburg entering the fourth quarter. Both teams played back and forth, but Millersville made the most of their opportunities at the free throw line converting 8-9 to close out the game. Millersville scored seven second-chance points and stole the ball four times in the fourth quarter to ice Shippensburg's comeback bid.

Senior Alayah Hall followed up Farquhar's performance with a new season-high 22 points. Hall scored 11 of her 22 points in the second half while also shooting a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Hall was close to earning a tripe-double as she snagged nine rebounds and registered seven assists. She also tied for the lead on the team with three steals.

Millersville improved to 6-6 on the season and 3-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Marauders will look to continue their ascent in the PSAC East standings at Mansfield on Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
