Shippensburg, Pa. - Before Millersville even scored a point, Shippensburg drilled three 3-pointers, and that set the stage for the Raiders' 94-72 win Saturday in Heiges Field House. Shippensburg shot 57.6 percent from the field with five players scoring in double figures. Millersville was led by
Marcus Adkison's 20 points.
Shippensburg (9-3, 5-2 PSAC) improved to 7-0 at home while Millersville dropped to 0-5 on the road. Shippensburg entered the game as the PSAC leader in 3-pointers attempted, and it drilled 9 of 13 shots from behind the arc in the first half, building a 57-42 lead. The 94 points marked a season-high for the Raiders, but they have cleared 90 points in two of their last three games.
Millersville knocked down 46 percent of its shots and made 7 of 17 from three, but simply could not keep pace, especially with Shippensburg taking care of the ball. Millersville entered the game leading Division II in steals and ranked fourth in turnovers forced, but Shippensburg had just 11 miscues with Millersville totaling five steals--its fewest since November. It ended a streak of seven consecutive games with at least 10 steals.
Adkison, who scored 20 points for the second consecutive game and for the sixth time this season, made a 3-pointer with 17:12 left in the game, cutting Ship's lead to 61-50. But that was as close as Millersville would get the rest of the way as Shippensburg responded with back-to-back baskets to quickly push the lead back to 15.
Freshman
Caden Najdawi scored 13 for the Marauders, giving him double-figures in four-straight games.
Millersville has a quick turnaround, traveling to Mansfield Monday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
