GAME OVERVIEW
•  Wednesday marks the 199th all-time meeting between Millersville and West Chester, and it is one of the most closely contested rivalries in the PSAC. West Chester, however, has won eight in a row and nine of the last 10. That run has given West Chester a slight 101-97 lead in the all-time series. West Chester's current streak is the longest winning streak by either team in the series since Millersville won 12 in a row from 1984-1990. A West Chester win Wednesday would match its longest consecutive wins streak over Millersville. West Chester won nine in a row from 1960-65 and 1924-28.Â
•   Hollinger Field House has been unkind to Millersville. Millersville has lost five in a row in the building with the last win coming in 2013. Millersville has won at Hollinger just three times since 1996. Scoring always seems to be an issue in the building. Millersville has scored 80 or more points there just four times in the last 30 years. Millersville has averaged just 60.7 points per game in the last 15 trips to West Chester. That includes games of 49 (2015), 48 (2011) and 38 (2009).Â
•   While West Chester has won eight in a row, games have been close. The last two match-ups have been decided by a total of seven points.Â
•   Millersville's win over Mansfield Wednesday helped the Marauders remain in a tie for the No. 6--and final--playoff spot in the PSAC East. It gave Millersville the head-to-head tiebreaker over Mansfield.Â
•   Millersville's freshmen have combined for 49 starts so far this season, with
James Sullivan having started all 21 and
Caden Najdawi starting 15 and
D'Marco Suggs 14. No other team in the PSAC has had as many freshmen starts. Freshmen account for 2,154 minutes played, which is 50.7 percent of the team's total minutes. Sullivan and Najdawi rank second and fourth on the team in average minutes per game. Of players with at least 100 minutes played, three of the top four Marauders in plus/minus are freshmen.
Andre Watkins ranks first, followed by
D'Marco Suggs and
Jamal Washington is fourth.Â
•  Â
James Sullivan's game-high 19 points against Mansfield may have been his breakout game. Sullivan made a career-high six shots and made three threes. After starting the season 7 for 12 from the line, Sullivan has made 19 of his last 22. Sullivan has also made nearly 35 percent of his threes over his last eight games after shooting 11 of 50 (.220) in his first 13 games. Fellow freshman
Jamal Washington averaged 11 points per game in the two games last week. Sullivan and Washington also rank in the top 20 in the PSAC in steals per game. Najdawi ranks 10th in the league in blocked shots.Â
•  Â
Marcus Adkison is closing in on a scoring milestone. He has 953 career points, scoring 801 of those points in 47 games as a Marauder. His current streak of 20 consecutive games in double figures is the longest single-season run by a Marauder since Greg Testa did it in all 27 games of the 2005-06 season.Â
•   Adkison ranks 10th in the PSAC in scoring average, sixth in free throw percentage, seventh in 3-point field goal percentage and second in steals.Â
SCOUTING WEST CHESTER
• Last week, West Chester hit No. 20 in the NABC Division II Poll but has since lost three in a row. This week, the Golden Rams fell from the No. 3 spot in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll to No. 8. Each of the Rams' last three losses have been by at least eight points. Since starting 12-0 West Chester is 3-4. The common denominator in the last three losses have been the shooting of the opponents. Each of the last three opponents have all shot at least 49.2 percent from the field. Pitt-Johnstown hit 62.3 percent and Bloomsburg shot 57.1 percent. This comes after West Chester had allowed 50 percent shooting just once in the first 16 games (also a loss vs. Bloomsburg). The last three opponents have also combined for 27 3-pointers and a .458 percentage. West Chester started the season 9-0 at home and its first home loss was Saturday to Bloomsburg.Â
