East Stroudsburg pulls away from Millersville
1/24/2018 9:07:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Millersville, Pa. - Millersville cut East Stroudsburg's lead to single digits early in the second half, but the visiting Warriors' frantic pressing defense and offensive firepower proved too much for the Marauders. ESU slowly pulled away for a 97-77 victory Wednesday in Pucillo Gymnasium.
East Stroudsburg (13-4, 10-3 PSAC) scored the game's first 10 points, but Millersville outscored the Warriors over the next 23 minutes and trailed just 58-51 with 16 minutes remaining. But that was as close as Millersville would ever get. East Stroudsburg ripped off a 15-4 run over the next 5:44, making 6 of 9 shots in the span. ESU kept a lead of at least 15 points the rest of the way.
The Warriors entered the game with the PSAC's highest-scoring offense at 93.8 points per game and have now scored over 90 in three consecutive wins over the Marauders and in three of their last four this season. ESU shot 56.3 percent and made 9 of 21 (.429) from three. Millersville shot 50.9 percent from the field but made just 4 of 15 threes and committed 18 turnovers against the ESU press. ESU also out-rebounded Millersville 40-27, and held Millersville to four second-chance points.
Jordan Greene led Millersville with 20 points, making 6 of 10 shots and 8 of 8 free throws. Marcus Adkison scored 13 on a tough shooting night in which he made 4 of 13 shots. Freshman Caden Najdawi totaled 12 points and eight boards. Jamal Washington helped the Marauders stay close early with 10 first-half points but did not score in the second.
