Devine's record setting performance upsets the Marauders

Lock Haven, Pa. -- Despite scoring their third highest total of the season and shooting 50 percent from the field, the Marauders could not overcome Lock Haven guard Rileigh Devine's 30 points and school record eight three-pointers. Millersville fell at Lock Haven 86-84 Wednesday night.

Devine haunted the Marauders again after scoring 30 points in a double overtime thriller in favor of Lock Haven in Pucillo Gymnasium last February. The sophomore guard was in the zone all night at Thomas Fieldhouse as she shot 11-13 from the field and 8-9 from the three point line. Devine lead all scorers in the contest and lead her teammates with 31 minutes played.

Millersville's offense jumped out to a quick start in the first quarter thanks to eight points off turnovers and lead by as much as eight. However, the Bald Eagles put together a 90 second run that cut Millersville's lead to just two points in the closing minutes of the first quarter. The Marauders broke their scoring drought in the final 16 seconds as redshirt junior Janelle Robinson scored her sixth point on a jumper before senior Alayah Hall scored her sixth point on a buzzer-beating lay up.

The second quarter followed a similar trajectory as the first quarter. The Marauders jumped out to another lead early in the quarter and lead by as much as 11 points. Lock Haven started another run with 4:12 remaining that featured back to back three pointers in the final three minutes to tie the game before a quick Lock Haven steal lead to a transition lay up and the team's first lead of the game. Redshirt junior Kendra Bamberger broke the Millersville stalemate with a late jump shot and tied the game up 37-37 to end the first half.

Lock Haven only extended its lead by as much as three early in the third quarter. A 7-0 Millersville run fueled by a layup and two more assisted baskets from junior Jade Farquhar took the lead back for the Marauders and they held the lead for the rest of the quarter. Millersville put together a 7-1 run in the final two minutes of the game including a three pointer from freshman Olivia Mottern in the final 10 seconds to close out the quarter with a 62-55 lead.

The Bald Eagles started the fourth quarter with a 10-3 run in the opening two minutes to tie the game up at 65-65. The Marauders and Bald Eagles were locked into four more ties in the final eight minutes of the game, but the Bald Eagles never trailed in the final 7:45. A lay up from Robinson tied the game up for the final time at 84-84 with momentum appearing to be in Millersville's favor. However, Hall fouled out after Lock Haven drew the offensive foul with 37 seconds remaining which killed the momentum. Lock Haven took the lead for the final time after the team drained two free throws during two separate trips to the charity stripe. Millersville had two opportunities in the paint in the final 15 seconds, but the rim was unkind and Lock Haven held on to win the game 86-84.

Reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week Alayah Hall continued her offensive dominance with 20 points on 54.5 percent shooting. Hall has scored 20 or more points in four of her last five while scoring in double figures in 15 of 16 games. Hall contributed all over the floor as she also snagged three rebounds, assisted three buckets, and stole the ball three times.

Robinson and Farquhar each scored 15 points in the contest. Farquhar shot 6-9 from the field while also assisting five more buckets. Robinson shot efficiently from the floor as she went 6-12 and perfect from the free throw line. Robinson paired her scoring performance five rebounds and two more assists.

Millersville fell to 8-8 and 5-7 in the PSAC and dropped back to the fourth spot in the PSAC East Standings. Kutztown moved back to the third spot with their win against Cheyney Wednesday night. Kutztown holds a tight lead over the Marauders in the standings because the Golden Bears' conference record features the same amount of wins as Millersville but one less conference loss.

Millersville will look to keep pace with Kutztown when it hits the road again to Erie, Pa. to face PSAC West opponent Gannon on Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
