Millersville, Pa. - Trailing 17-15 with Jefferson threatening to even the match at two sets apiece, Millersville senior
Erin Harman took over service and sparked a 4-0 run that pushed Millersville into the lead. Following a 3-0 Marauder surge later in the set Harman closed Millersville's fifth consecutive win--a 3-1 triumph (26-24, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22) over the visiting Rams--with an emphatic kill.
The Marauders overcame an off-night on the attack to improve to 5-0 to start the 2017 season. The Marauders posted a .114 hitting percentage and were led by
Erin Harman's 17 kills on 60 swings. Freshman
Haley Butler made her 2017 debut after missing the first four matches with an injury and delivered 11 kills with just two errors. Freshman
Kat Forry recorded a career-high 28 digs, and
Katie Laughman posted a double-double with 37 assists and 13 digs.
The Marauders built an 18-10 lead in the opening set before Jefferson slowly closed the gap, evening the set at 24-24 on a Millersville attack error. But Butler provided the response for Millersville with a kill, and a Jefferson error closed the set in favor of the Marauders, 26-24.
Millersville limited Jefferson to seven kills and a .054 hitting percentage in a runaway 25-16 second set victory. But in the third set, the Rams turned a 13-10 lead into a 17-10 advantage with Caitlin Crespo serving, the Marauders never got closer than five points the rest of the way, mustering 11 kills and eight errors to Jefferson's 15 kills and five errors.
Harman delivered five kills of the Marauders 10 kills and Laughman added nine helpers in the deciding fourth set.
Millersville hosts the Marauder Clash on Friday and Saturday. The Marauders' first match of the weekend is Friday at 7 p.m. against USciences.
