Leverentz buries overtime free position goal as Millersville survives Edinboro 11-10

Millersville, Pennsylvania -- The Millersville women's lacrosse team defeated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Edinboro University 11-10 Saturday after freshman Sarah Leverentz scored a free position goal in overtime.

The Marauders controlled the first as senior Renee Landis opened up the scoring with two goals including her 100th career goal in the first 11 minutes. Sophomore Nathalie Sell scored her tenth goal of the season to put the Marauders up 3-0. Edinboro answered  four minutes later to cut the lead to two goals. Senior Taylor Davis started another three goal streak for the Marauders as she notched her 13th goal of the season, and Landis scored her third and fourth goals of the game in a span of seven minutes. Edinboro mustered one last answer before the half ended.

Edinboro started the second half aggressively and kept up the aggression through the entire second half. The Fighting Scots fought back and outscored the Marauders 8-4 in the second half to tie the game at 10 at the end of regulation. The Marauders started the overtime period as the aggressors as junior Callie Kavanaugh and sophomore Erin Fagan ripped shots within seconds of each other. Moments after Fagan's shot, Landis fired a rocket that hit the crossbar and deflected downward and appeared to be a goal, but it was not called in favor of the Marauders. Three minutes later, Leverentz was fouled and lined up at the free position. Leverentz's wound up and launched a shot that was unquestionably a goal.

The Marauders improved to 6-7 on the season and 3-5 in conference play while ending a four game losing streak. The Marauders return to the field April 20 at PSAC rival East Stroudsburg University.
