Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Millersville baseball has a new Hit King.
Chas McCormick totaled five hits in Tuesday's road sweep of USciences, boosting his career total to 276 and moving past
Tyler Orris on the program's career hits list. McCormick extra-inning single helped the Marauders rally for an 8-6 win in the opener, and he led off game two with a solo homer, sparking the Marauders to a 13-3 victory.
McCormick needed just 202 career games to set the Millersville record, and he moves into fifth place in PSAC history in career hits. He trails West Chester's Matt Cotellese (2005-09) by 28 hits. McCormick moved into the leadoff spot for the first time this season and delivered in a big way. He reached eight times in the doubleheader and scored three runs. He drew three walks in addition to his five hits. His homer in game two was his team-leading sixth of the season.
The eighth-inning victory in game one improved Millersville to 4-0 in extra-inning games.
Ben Snyder hit a game-tying three-run home run in the seventh inning of the first game to force the extra innings. The 13 runs scored in game two was the team's most runs in 14 games. Snyder hit another home run in game two.
Dan Neff finished the day with five hits, three walks and six RBIs.
The Marauders host PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg on Friday.
GAME 1
Millersville fell behind 5-0 in game one after USciences produced a three-run third inning on three hits and a walk. Two more scored in the fourth, and first-time starter
Bobby Dorta was knocked from the game after 4 1/3 innings. The Marauders pulled off a dramatic rally, however.
Trailing 6-3 in the seventh, Neff drew a one-out walk.
Mitch Stoltzfus singled, setting the stage for Snyder's three-run shot to left field, which tied the score at 6-6.
Mike Mock twirled a 1-2-3 seventh to send the game to extras, and in the eighth, Neff doubled in two runs to break the tie. Mock issued a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the eighth as well as a two-out single but registered his fourth strikeout in two innings of work to secure his third win of the season.
Neff and Snyder led the Marauders with four RBIs. Neff with 3-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base. Snyder and
Manning Brookens also had two hits.
GAME 2
Millersville's late-game momentum carried into the opening inning of game two. McCormick led off with a homer, Neff doubled, and Snyder hit his second homer of the afternoon. Millersville turned over the lineup and McCormick drove in two more with a single, capping a seven-run inning.
McCormick recorded a hit in each of his first four at bats. Neff doubled twice, and Snyder went 3-for-3.
On the mound,
Drew Miller (1-0) made his first career start and tossed a complete game, allowing two earned runs on six hits over seven innings.
