Millersville, Pennsylvania -- Senior
Taylor Davis scored three goals and assisted two more in her first significant minutes since returning from injury while junior Sabrina Fusco scored four and assisted another as the Marauders dismantled Shepherd University 18-4 Tuesday.
The game started fast with Shepherd winning the draw and scoring in the opening minute of the game. SU's Brooke Hunley buried her first goal with only 46 seconds ticked off the clock, and what would become the final box score seemed far off at the time. However, Millersville stayed patient and waited for an opportunity to equalize. Three minutes after the opening goal, Fusco found the back of the net off a free position attempt. Fusco would fire in another goal 75 seconds later to take the lead, and the Marauders wouldn't look back. Less than a minute later, junior
Callie Kavanaugh would score on
Renee Landis's assist to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Marauders. SU's Elishia Davis would slice through the middle of the defense and fire a screamer to cut the Millersville lead to 3-2.
With the game still close, Millersville would turn up the pressure on offense and score five unanswered goals in under seven minutes. SU would score their third goal with under eleven minutes remaining in the first half, but the game was already out of hand at 8-3 in favor of the Marauders. Millersville would score three goals to close the half and two more to open the second half to make the score 13-3 with 26:39 remaining in the game. SU's Hunley would score her second goal for the Rams with 20 minutes remaining, but it would be the final goal scored for the Rams. Millersville would score another five unanswered goals to close the game at 18-4.
Landis recorded three more assists to bring her tally to 13 total points in three games. Landis is further proving why she earned her Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference co-athlete of the week honors last week. Fusco led the team with four goals and added another assist to bring her cumulative total to 13 points in three games as well. Fusco currently leads the team with nine goals. Davis scored the second most goals for the Marauders against SU while Kavanaugh recorded two more. Kavanaugh now ranks second on the team in goals scored with six goals in three games. Eleven Marauders have scored at least one goal this season, while nine of them have recorded multiple goals.
Millersville return to action at Holy Family University on Sat. March 11 at 1 pm.
