Shepherdstown, West Virginia - Millersville rallied past Shepherd for a 4-3 win in game one and then rolled to a 13-4 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Eli Nabholz improved to 3-0 with his game one mound victory. The Marauders trailed 3-1 but scored three runs in the top of the sixth.
Mike Mock picked up the save with four strikeouts in two innings. Game two was all about the bats as the Marauders totaled 16 hits. Every starter recorded at least one hit, and
Tyler Yankosky picked up his first career win.
Millersville improved to 10-3 and has won five of the last six.
In the opener, Shepherd jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first after all-region outfielders Jacob Carney and J.J. Sarty opened with a single and double. A walk was follow by a RBI single. But Nabholz quickly settled. After stranding two to end the first, he retired the next seven Rams and finished with three runs allowed on 10 hits over five innings. Millersville's comeback came in the sixth, and every run scored with two outs.
Grayson Miller, making his first career start at shortstop, singled in
David Summerfield and later scored on a wild pitch, evening the game at 3-3.
Chas McCormick then singled home
Ted Williams, putting the Marauders in front.
A one-run lead was enough for Mock, who faced just seven batters--walking one--in his two innings of relief work. Mock has now allowed just two hits and no runs in 8 2/3 innings this season.
McCormick led the Marauders at the plate in game two, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Mitch Stoltzfus drove in two and walked twice, and
Jimmy Cain plated two with two hits. All three Marauders had a double. Yankosky worked four innings, allowing three runs--two earned--one four hits and four walks.
Paul Wilson tossed two innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits.
Millersville has scored double-digit runs in five games and has at least 10 hits in 10 of 13.
The Marauders make their home debut Sunday at Cooper Park. First pitch for the doubleheader against Shepherd is 1 p.m.
