Callie Kavanaugh scored the go-ahead goal with 13 seconds remaining for the Millersville lacrosse team as the Marauders succeeded in their comeback efforts against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Bloomsburg University Wednesday.
The Marauders were down 5-3 at the half and then gave up a goal in the opening 22 seconds of the second half. However, Millersville roared to life scoring the next four goals to take a 7-6Â lead halfway through the second half. Bloomsburg scored two straight goals to retake the lead 8-7 with 13:48 remaining. The Marauders and the Huskies traded goals until the game was tied 10-10 with six minutes remaining in the half. The stalemate held until senior
Jamie Damirgian passed the ball to Kavanaugh and she buried the goal with 13 seconds remaining. Bloomsburg called timeout but could not formulate a comeback attempt.
Millersville halted its three game losing streak and improved to 5-3 with a 2-2 record in the PSAC. Damirgian's assist on the game winner was her fifth point of the afternoon. The senior midfielder assisted two goals and scored three more including two early goals that tied the game 3-3 against the Huskies. Damirgian is tied for third on the team in points and tied for second in goals. Kavanaugh's game winner was her third point while she scored one goal and assisted another earlier in the game. Kavanaugh is tied with Damirgian for third on the team in points, and she is the fourth Marauder to reach double digit goals on the season. Senior
Renee Landis scored two goals against the Huskies and she is now tied with Damirgian for second on the team with 11 goals. Junior
Sabrina Fusco scored one goal and assisted another. Fusco has scored 18 goals for the Marauders and has scored at least one goal in all eight games this season.
Millersville's next game is at Mercy College on April 1 at 2 p.m.
