Williamston, North Carolina - Dan Neff scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning, and the Millersville bullpen tossed 4 2/3 one-hit innings in a 4-3 victory over Indiana (Pa.) late Friday evening.
No. 6 Millersville (12-4) and Indiana (3-7) combined for just seven hits. Two of the Marauders' four runs were scored without RBIs. Neff recorded two of Millersville's three hits. The other came from
Mitch Stoltzfus, who doubled in a run in the fifth.
Millersville starter
Eli Nabholz struck out eight in 4 1/3, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks. The bullpen was dominant.
Matt Ulrich,
Kyle Peterson and
Mike Mock allowed just one hit and fanned eight. Peterson (3-1) picked up the win and Mock scored the save.
Millersville trailed 2-1 after IUP's Dan Sepic hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Millersville pulled in front in the fifth. After
Grayson Miller and
Ted Williams walked, Neff singled to load the bases.
Chas McCormick brought in Miller with a sacrifice fly, and Stoltzfus doubled in a run for a 3-2 lead. IUP evened the score on a Peterson wild pitch in the seventh, but Neff created a run in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Neff tripled, and then scored on passed ball with Christian McClure on the mound.
Peterson stranded two IUP runners in the eighth, and Mock entered the ninth and struck out two.
Millersville and IUP are set to play one game on Saturday and two on Sunday.
