Williamston, North Carolina - The combination of
Cordell Shannon and
Drew Miller in game one and
David Manasek in game two helped No. 14 Millersville two a pair of shutout victories over Indiana (Pa.) Sunday afternoon. Millersville won the games by scores of 14-0 and 1-0, giving it eight wins in its last nine games.
In the opener, Shannon went five innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six, and Miller struck out five over the final two innings. Shannon earned his first win of the season after five starts. He also did not walk a batter after allowing seven free passes in his previous two starts. Miller has struck out eight in his last three innings of relief work.
Not to be outdone, Manasek (2-1) made
Chas McCormick's first-inning RBI single hold up in the nightcap. The junior allowed just three hits and struck out six while not walking a batter for his second consecutive start with seven shutout innings. Manasek has allowed just four hits without a walk and struck out 15 batters in his last two starts. His mastery was needed as Millersville's lineup mustered just three hits. The only run of the game came when
Dan Neff drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored on McCormick's RBI base hit.
There was no shortage of offense for the Marauders in game one of the doubleheader. Millersville's 14 hits came from 12 different batters, and 11 of the hits were singles. Only
Mitch Stoltzfus' two-run double in a four-run fifth went for extra bases.
The scoring started in the fourth when the Marauders were helped by a pair of IUP errors and a passed ball.
David Summerfield started the inning with a single and closed a seven-run inning with a two-run single in his second at bat. Freshman
Brandon White also drove in two runs off the bench.
Ted Williams reached base four times with two hits and to walks and scored three runs.
PSAC East play begins Friday, March 24 when the Marauders host Kutztown at Cooper Park.
