Cheyney, Pennsylvania - Despite holding a six-point lead entering the fourth quarter, the Millersville women's basketball team lost its sixth-straight game of the season by falling to Cheyney 64-62 Saturday.
Kendra Bamberger had arguably her best game of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds while
Aunjel Van Brakle and Alayah Hall scored double figures and
Courtney Hinnant grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Wolves capitalized on Millersville's 22 turnovers by scoring 21 points and edged out the Marauders in fast-break points as well as points in the paint en route to victory. Thre players hit double-digit scoring as Cheyney only turned the ball over 14 times.
The Wolves struck first in the fourth and went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 48 before
Aunjel Van Brakle put Millersville back ahead by two. The two sides would trade leads until Van Brakle hit a pair of free throws to give the Marauders a one-point lead with under a minute to play. On the ensuing possession, Marlon Herring drove the lane and scored to give Cheyney the advantage.
Alayah Hall would try to answer, getting fouled and hitting one of two free throws to tie the game at 62 with eight seconds to play. Cheyney would give the ball to Taschell Phillips who drove the paint and scored the game-winner with 1.5 seconds to play. Millersville would fail to get a shot off and fall by two on the road.
Despite losing its last six games, Millersville snagged the six seed in the PSAC East due to a Lock Haven loss. The Marauders will travel to Kutztown Monday to face the Golden Bears at 7 p.m.
