Millersville, Pennsylvania - Despite holding late leads in both the fourth quarter and the first overtime, the Millersville women's basketball team could not hold on as they fell to Lock Haven 77-70 in double overtime Saturday.
Alayah Hall led the Marauders with 16 points off the bench while
Jade Farquhar had 14. The Marauders had no answer for freshman Rileigh Divine who score 30 points going 10-14 from the field.
Millersville shot just under 38 percent from the floor while Lock Haven shot over 44 percent and hit seven 3-pointers in the win. The thin Millersville bench was a problem for the Marauders as the Bald Eagles bench outscored them 42-21.
The teams went back and forth until Lock Haven began to separate themselves in the second quarter from Millersville as Becca Reilly hit a 3-pointer to give the Bald Eagles a six-point advantage. The Marauders cut into the deficit from the floor and capped off the first half with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from
Kendra Bamberger which gave Millersville a 29-27 lead at the break.
Millersville controlled the first part of the fourth quarter, jumping out to an eight point lead when Bamberger worked through the defense and scored in the lane. Lock Haven would erase the deficit, going on an 8-0 run as Devine hit back-to-back layups and Madison McHale drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game at 51. After Lysa Mealing tied the game at 57, Devine had a chance to win the game when she fired a three that just missed and ended regulation.
The Marauders jumped out to another lead in the first overtime when Babmberger and Farquhar each knocked down a 3-pointer to make the score 63-58Â but the offense would go stagnant as Lock Haven climbed back into the game and Mealing tied the game at 63 with one second to play.
Riley Devine continued to stay hot, hitting a pair of jump shots to give the Bald Eagles a four-point lead. Millersville would climb to within one when Van Brakle banked in a three, but Lock Haven scored six unanswered and iced the game at the free throw line.
The Marauders have a week off until they travel to Kutztown Saturday to face the Golden Bears at 1 p.m.
