Millersville, Pa. -- Despite Millersville holding a thin lead entering the fourth quarter, Slippery Rock was able to pull away late and win 85-72 in Pucillo Gymnasium. Redshirt junior
Kendra Bamberger scored a new career-high 19 points against the Rock.
Bamberger, who set her previous career-high of 18 against Mercyhurst earlier in the season, reached 19 points by the third quarter against The Rock. The forward shot 50 percent from the field while also snagging seven rebounds. Foul trouble took Bamberger out of the game for a portion of the fourth quarter which halted her from improving her career-high even more.
The Marauders lead for the majority of the game and by as many as 11. However, Slippery Rock was able to battle back and finally tie the game with nine minutes remaining in the game. It was the first time the game was tied since 2:15 into the first quarter. The Rock put together a 6-0 and 8-0 run inside the fourth quarter to steal the game away from the Marauders.
Field goal percentage played a big role in the game as Millersville took 17 more shots than The Rock, but Slippery Rock made one more basket. Five Slippery Rock players scored in double figures including Ciara Patterson who shot an unconscious 7-8 from the field including 5-6 from the three point line and a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe. Patterson's 28 points proved to be the x-factor for the Rock.
Joining Bamberger in double figures for Millersville was senior
Alayah Hall, sophomore
Courtney Dimoff, and redshirt junior
Janelle Robinson. Hall scored 19 on 43 percent shooting and 40 percent shooting from beyond the arch. Dimoff took advantage of a couple trips to the charity stripe paired with three made shots from beyond the arch to reach 13 points. Robinson was a spark plug for Millersville on both ends of the floor. While scoring 11 points, she stole the ball five times while also snagging six rebounds.
Millersville falls to 3-5 and 1-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Marauders head to our nation's capital to take on the University of the District of Columbia on Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. before enjoying winter break. Millersville return to Pucillo Gymnasium on Dec. 30 to take on Cheyney.
