Greene ignites comeback but Marauders fall short

Millersville, Pa. - Jordan Greene scored 17 points in the final four minutes to bring Millersville within five points, but Goldey-Beacom held on for an 84-76 win--its fourth in a row.
Millersville trailed by 15 with 5:02 left in the game, but Greene scored nine consecutive points for the Marauders and 17 of the team's next 19 points in a span 3:37 span. A James Sullivan free throw brought the Marauders to within 78-73 with 56 second play. Millersville had outscored Goldey-Beacom 20-10, making 7 of 10 shots while the Lightning went 1 for 4 with seven turnovers against Millersville's ramped up full court press.
Dante Thompson made one of two from the line to stop Millersville's 6-0 run. With a chance to cut the deficit to one possession, Sullivan's 3-pointer from the top of the key rattled out. Mark Perry grabbed the offensive rebound, was fouled, and made one of two free throws.
But that was as close as Millersville could get. Mahir Johnson followed his own miss with a tip-in on Goldey-Beacom's next possession, and over the final 30 seconds, Goldey-Beacom made its only shot and all three free throws while the Marauders managed just one bucket as time ticked away.
Greene scored 19 of his game-high 28 points in the second half and also grabbed 10 rebounds for his third career double-double. Marcus Adkison overcame a slow start to score 15. He scored 12 points in the second half and made four of his final five shots from the field.
But the Marauders committed a season-high 23 turnovers. The Marauders led 28-27 with 5:02 left in the first half, but Goldey-Beacom's 12-3 run over the next 3:15 put it in front by eight at the half. After Sullivan's jumper put Millersville on the board first in the second period, Goldey-Beacom outscored Millersville 18-8 over the next eight minutes and pushed its lead to 16 points (61-45).
Goldey-Beacom has won three in a row over the Marauders and seven of nine all-time meetings.
Millersville returns to its home court on Saturday against Slippery Rock.
