GAME OVERVIEW
•  Millersville steps out of PSAC play for a home game with Goldey-Beacom Wednesday before diving back into league play against Slippery Rock Saturday. Goldey-Beacom has won three in a row while Millersville, after scoring 100-plus points and winning by 30-plus points twice last week, was limited 67 points and was limited to its second-lowest shooting percentage of the season (.361) in Sunday's loss to Pitt-Johnstown.Â
• When Millersville's offense is clicking, it is tough to beat. The Marauders have scored over 100 points three times and are 3-0 in those games. When shooting at least 38 percent from the floor, the Marauders are 3-4 and three of those losses came by three or fewer points. The Marauders have shot better than 45 percent from the field six times in nine games. Millersville is also 3-3 when making at least seven 3-pointers. The Marauders' 83.1 points per game ranks fourth in the PSAC and its .391 team 3-point field goal percentage is third best.
• The Marauders' defense is the real key, however. When holding teams to under 50 percent shooting, Millersville is 3-3 but 0-3 when opponents shoot better than 50 percent. Millersville's opponents have also shot 47 for 117 (.402) from three in the six losses but 22 for 72 (.305) in the three wins. Millersville ranks 15th out of 18 teams in field goal percentage defense.
• The Marauders have shown the ability to force turnovers. Three consecutive opponents and four of the last five have committed at least 22 turnovers. Five times Millersville's opponents have committed 22 or more turnovers, and Millersville has eight or more steals in six games. Millersville ranks fifth in Division II in turnovers forced per game at 20.2.Â
• In the last three games, the Marauders have totaled 45 steals, ranking them second nationally in total steals with 102. Millersville is 3-1 when recording double-digit steals. The Marauders' 11.3 steals per game rank second in the league behind only East Stroudsburg. Millersville has committed fewer turnovers than its opponents in eight of nine games, and its plus-7.0 turnover margin ranks second in the PSAC.Â
•
Marcus Adkison's 44-point game against Clarion was the fourth-highest scoring total of 2017 in Division II. Adkison is one of just four players in the PSAC to shoot 40 percent from three and 50 percent from the field. Adkison has scored in double figures in eight consecutive games.Â
ABOUT THE SERIES
• The Lightning and the Marauders first met in 2009 and have met in seven of the last eight seasons, playing twice in 2016-17. Millersville's only two wins in the eight games have come at home. Goldey-Beacom, however, has won three in a row in the series. The last meeting on Dec. 31, 2016 was the first time that the winning team had scored more than 80 points.Â
• Goldey-Beacom coach T.J. Dekmar and Millersville's
Casey Stitzel certainly know each other well. Dekmar, in his second season, served as an assistant under Stitzel at Delaware Valley for three seasons, helping the program to a 2013 MAC Freedom title. Â
SCOUTING THE LIGHTNING
• After opening the season with four consecutive losses, Goldey-Beacom has won three in a row. Among the opening losses, two came by three points, one came against nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire, and another came against Division I Morgan State. Goldey-Beacom holds teams to 73.9 points per game but has struggled on the offensive end, hitting just 40.8 percent of shots and 29.3 percent of threes.Â
• Leading scorer Corey Taite averages 16.3 points per game and has averaged double figures in each of his first three collegiate seasons. He's scored at least 18 points in each of the last three games and played at least 33 minutes in every game this season (40 in two of the last three). he has not been efficient with his scoring, shooting .388 from the field.Â
