Millersville, Pa. - The complexion of Friday's PSAC match between Millersville and IUP changed with four consecutive Crimson Hawks' points in set two. With Millersville leading 24-22 and on the verge of taking a two sets to none lead, Natalie Cignetti turned the tide of the match with three-straight kills, and IUP went on to score a 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-18) win.
Cignetti's heroics in set two were among her match-high 20 kills--the same number she totaled against the Marauders in last season's meeting. Freshman
Lindsey Blevins led the Marauders with 18 kills.
Erin Harman and
Haley Butler recorded 12 apiece.
Following the set one victory, Millersville found itself trailing 21-15 in set two. The Marauders, however, stormed back with five consecutive points--all with
Kelsi Ceriani serving. Harman retied the score at 22-22, and back-to-back kills from Butler put the Marauders at set point. But that's when Cignetti took over and pushed IUP to four consecutive points.
After the set two comeback, IUP controlled sets three and four. The Crimson Hawks led by as many as eight in a third set in which in totaled 14 kills to three errors and hit .379. They out-hit the Marauders .216-.074 in the third with Millersville committing seven hitting errors and two service errors.
The loss dropped Millersville to 15-7 (6-6 PSAC). IUP boosted its mark to 18-7, 9-3 PSAC. Millersville returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Clarion.
