Marauders hold off Huskies to run streak to nine

Millersville, Pa. – The No. 3 Millersville Marauders defeated 10th-ranked Bloomsburg on Tuesday by a score of 3-2 to improve to 12-3 (7-1 PSAC). After starting down 1-0, Aliza Mizak scored two goals and Alexis Gazzio added another to help Millersville stave off the persistent Huskies.

After eight consecutive games without allowing a goal (coming one game short of tying the school record) goalkeeper Kylee Bair and the Marauders finally saw their streak come to an end.

A more important streak was kept alive, however. It was the ninth-straight win for Millersville, which after starting 3-3, has put together an impeccable run.

Mizak has consistently been a part of that success, and today was no different, as she scored two goals for the second time this season.

The first goal came 14 minutes into the first half, which evened the score at the time. Kathleen Bishop took a corner and sent the pass in to Mizak, who did not hesitate. After bringing the ball out of the circle, which she did with haste, Mizak fired a bullet into the back of the cage.

It was the first of two for the junior, who now has six goals this year.

Mizak's second goal came minutes into the second half. Again it was assisted, this time by an accurate pass by Lexi Robison. Mizak one-timed it to give Millersville a 2-1 lead.
It would not be enough, as Millersville would later allow a second goal.

Fortunately for the Marauders, Gazzio scored only five minutes after Mizak's goal. Courtney Weaver assisted Gazzio's fourth goal of the season, giving Millersville a 3-1 lead with 26:41 remaining in the game.

But with under 10 minutes to go in the game, Bloomsburg scored a strange goal to cut the lead to one. Ali McKay seemed to be running out of space, so she sent a shot in. The shot deflected off a Marauder stick and flew high into the air for Bloomsburg's second goal of the game.

The first goal came far earlier, in the sixth minute of the first half, when Erica Krebs scored.

The goal ended the Marauders' minutes streak of not allowing a goal. Bair and Marauders can proudly state that the 625 minutes without a goal is the second longest in school history.

The two goals allowed are the most allowed by Millersville this year since a Sept. 20 loss to then-No. 1 East Stroudsburg.

There was nearly a third goal that would have tied the game. Brooke Zeiders had an opportunity with 54 seconds left, but she missed wide left on a fast break chance.

In the nine consecutive wins, Millersville has outscored opponents 23-2.

If the Marauders win their final two conference games, they will host the PSAC Tournament. Millersville currently sits in sole possession of second place, one game in the loss column behind Shippensburg, which visits Millersville on Oct. 25.

The next test for the Marauders comes at home on Saturday as they take on their final non-PSAC opponent, Belmont-Abbey, at 12 p.m.
