GAME OVERVIEW
•   After a 30-point victory over Cheyney and a 17-point win over previously unbeaten and No. 5-ranked Shippensburg, Millersville begins a difficult two-game road run at Mansfield and East Stroudsburg. Now at 6-9 in the PSAC play, Millersville is one game in front of Mansfield and also holds an edge for the head-to-head tiebreaker after topping the Mountaineers 71-68 back on Dec. 30. Millersville trails the No. 4 seed by only one game.
•   Millersville and Mansfield match-up statistically. Millersville (74.7 ppg) and Mansfield (74.3 ppg) ranked 11th and 12th among PSAC teams in scoring average, and Millersville (78.1) and Mansfield (76.6) rank 13th and 12th respectively in scoring defense. Millersville holds a decided edge in 3-point shooting, ranking seventh in the 18-team league at .371 while Mansfield is 17th at .299. But Mansfield has attempted just 278 threes--150 fewer than Millersville. Mansfield's advantage is on the boards where it is nearly even (-0.6) in rebounding margin while Millersville is -10.6, which ranks last in the league. Millersville's rebounding has improved over the last five games. Since Lock Haven and IUP out-rebounded Millersville by a combined 37 rebounds, Millersville has averaged a -7.4 margin, which is three boards better than the season average. Most notably, Millersville has averaged nearly nine offensive rebounds per game in the last five games. Millersville totaled eight or more offensive rebounds in just eight of the first 14 games but has hit or eclipsed that total in four of the last five.
•   Despite being just 6-2,
Jordan Greene has become one of the Marauders' top rebounders. Greene has averaged 9.0 rebounds per game over his last three and is coming off of a career-high 11 boards against Shippensburg. Greene's scoring continues to climb as well. Greene averaged 6.5 points and shot .410 in his first 13 games and went scoreless three times. He has since score at least 13 points in six in a row, averaging a team-best 16.0 points per game while shooting .466 in that stretch. Greene also connected on 23-of-26 free throws in those six games.
•  Â
Cornell Yarde II was named PSAC East Co-Athlete of the Week on Monday after scoring 27 points in the upset of Shippensburg and 15 in the rout of Cheyney. Yarde totaled 47 points and made 9-of-16 threes in his two games against Ship. Since the calendar switched to 2017 (nine games), Yarde has averaged a team-best 16.2 points per game while hitting 47.5 percent of his shots. Yarde has scored at least 11 points in eight of those nine and has hit for 20 or more three times.
•   Millersville has won six in a row over the Mountaineers--the longest Marauder winning streak in the series since taking 16 in a row from 1984-1992. Millersville holds a commanding 85-58 lead in the series that dates back to 1933-34. The teams have played at least once each season since 1958-59. Expect a close game again Wednesday as eight of the last nine games have been decided by single digits. The average margin of victory in the last nine meetings is 5.3 points per game and the widest margin of victory was Millersville's 64-53 win at Mansfield last season. Millersville has won two in a row at Mansfield but had lost six in a row prior to that.
SCOUTING MANSFIELD
• Mansfield has lost three in a row and six of its last seven games. Playing at Decker Gymnasium hasn't been much of a benefit as Mansfield is 3-4 at home and 4-6 on the road. The Mountaineers home schedule has been tough of late. It's last four home games includes losses to nationally-ranked Shippensburg and Kutztown and a five-point loss to Gannon, which is second in the PSAC West. It's last win was an 89-82 home triumph over Lock Haven.
•   Malik Carter and Matt Tamanosky give Mansfield a potent scoring duo. The pair averages 17.2 and 17.1 points per game respectively, and both rank in the top 10 in the PSAC in scoring. Mansfield is the only team in the league to have two players averaging 17 or more points per game and the only team with two players ranked in the top 10 in scoring. Carter's 6.8 rebounds per game also ranks 12th in the league, and Tamanosky's .621 field goal percentage is second-best in the PSAC. Cedrick Powell's 5.4 assists per game ranks fourth.
