No. 14 Shippensburg pulls away from Millersville

Shippensburg, Pennsylvania - After 20 minutes, Millersville men's basketball looked in position to hand No. 14 Shippensburg its first loss of the season. But the second half belonged to the Raiders. Shippensburg, the PSAC's top scoring team, poured in 56 second half points to pull away from Millersville, 96-75.

Shippensburg (11-0, 7-0 PSAC) shot 61.8 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes and finished with more points than any other Millersville opponent this season. Shippensburg entered the game with an average winning margin of 21.5 points per game. The Marauders (5-6, 4-3 PSAC) have now allowed 190 points in its last two games and 114 in the second half of those games. Shippensburg shot 54.1 percent from the field and made 11-of-28 threes. Millersville made 40.3 percent of its shots and 6-of-19 threes.

Cornell Yarde II led Millersville 20 points--his second 20-point game of the season. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Conrad Chambers added 16 points. Millersville's leading scorer Marcus Adkison played just 17 minutes and attempted just two shots--both in the second half. Adkison's two early fouls limited him to six first half minutes. Justin McArthur's 19 led five Raiders in double figures.

Millersville trailed 40-37 at halftime, and Amadou Kaba scored on Millersville's first possession of the second to cut Ship's lead to one. Shippensburg, however, answered by scoring on its next four possessions. Milersville trailed 56-48 with 16:10 to play, but the Raiders ripped off a 16-2 run over the next four-plus minutes, extending its lead to 22. The Marauders retaliated with a 14-2 run of their own, receiving seven points from Yarde in the stretch.  Shippensburg still held a 74-64 advantage with 8:22 left, and a 12-2 run by the Raiders put the game out of reach.

After facing PSAC East-leading Shippensburg on Tuesday, the Marauders host East Stroudsburg, unbeaten in PSAC play, on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
