GAME OVERVIEW
•   Millersville scored a season-high 97 points and beat Cheyney by 30 points on Wednesday, picking up a much-needed win just in time to host No. 5-ranked and undefeated Shippensburg on Saturday. Five of Millersville's six wins have come at Pucillo Gymnasium and four of Shippensburg's seven road wins have been by 10 points or fewer. Millersville is also just one game out of the PSAC East's No. 4 seed.
•   Against Cheyney, Millersville shot a season-best 53.5 percent from the field and connected on 60.7 percent of its shots in the second half. The Marauders also connected on 28-of-32 free throws. The 28 makes were a season high and the .875 percentage was the best of the season when attempting at least 12 foul shots. Millersville last made that many free throws on Dec. 20, 2014, sinking 30 against Mercyhurst. Millersville is 4-2 when attempting at least 20 free throws. The 97 points were the most scored by the Marauders since January of 2015.
•   Saturday's game marks the fourth time this season that Millersville has played a nationally-ranked opponent. Millersville's last win over a nationally-ranked opponent came on Feb. 20, 2013 when it knocked off No. 10 East Stroudsburg, 79-69.
•   Shippensburg spent a number of years in the PSAC West but the two programs have still met at least once each season since 1913-14 (not including the stretch from 1942-45 for World War II). Millersville has played Shippensburg 182 times--the fourth-most of any opponent. Millersville has beaten Shippenburg 117 times. Of all its opponents, Millersville has defeated only Kutztown more times. Shippensburg holds a 16-12 lead in the series since 2001-02. Millersville holds an 8-3 advantage inside Pucillo Gymnasium since 2006-07 and is 16-7 at home since 1983-84.
•   With eight regular season games remaining on the schedule, first-year coach
Casey Stitzel has already won two more games than the team won in all of 2015-16. Millersville has had just 20 coaches in its 117-year history, and only seven of those coaches inherited a team that had posted a losing record the year prior. Five of the seven increased the team's win total in their first season. The biggest jump was John Kochan's seven-win improvement in 1983-84 (11 to 18). Stitzel, however, is the first Marauder coach to inherit a team with fewer than six wins since George Webster in 1904-05. The 2015-16 Marauders (4-22) posted the lowest winning percentage in program history.
•  Â
Marcus Adkison delivered his seventh 20-point performance of the season Wednesday against Cheyney. Adkison's 16.5 ppg average ranks 12th in the PSAC, and he also ranks third in threes per game (3.3) and sixth in 3-point percentage (.405). He is on pace to produce the highest, full-season scoring average by a Marauder in over a decade. If he maintains his current average, he will finish with 429 points at the end of the regular season--the most since Larry Grant's 430 in 2013. He is also on pace for 87 3-pointers, which would rank fifth in Millersville history and the most since Kenny Brown's 98 in 1992-93.
SCOUTING SHIPPENSBURG
• Shippensburg is off to its best start in program history and has achieved its highest-ever national ranking. The Raiders have already clinched a playoff berth. The Raiders went 20-9 last season after going 13-14 in 204-15 and 3-23 in Chris Fite's first season.
•   The Raiders rank third in the PSAC in scoring (87.2) and fourth in scoring defense (68.4). Its 18.7 scoring margin is sixth-best in Division II. Five players average double-figures, led by junior Dustin Sleva at 20.8 points per game. Sleva is also the team's leading rebounding at 11.8 rpg. Sleva ranks fourth nationally in double-doubles with 12.
