No. 12 IUP holds off Marauders in final minutes

Millersville, Pennsylvania - Millersville gave No. 12 Indiana (Pa.) all it could handle Wednesday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium. Millersville's frantic, pressure defense pulled it within six points with 1:20 to play, but the visiting Crimson Hawks made enough stops to hold off the Marauders' rally, 73-63.

Millersville (5-9, 4-6 PSAC) trailed by as many as 16 in the second half, but slowly whittled the deficit down to 67-61 by forcing seven IUP turnovers and holding the visitors to eight points in a nine-minute stretch. Conrad Chambers, who finished with 12 points, scored four consecutive points to bring the Marauders within two scores. Millersville, however, ran out of steam at the offensive end. It missed its final two 3-pointer attempts and was forced to send IUP to the foul line where it made 6-of-7 free throws to pull away.

Indiana (13-2, 9-1 PSAC) has now won five in a row and seven of the last eight with the lone loss coming in overtime to No. 2 Fairmont State.

Marcus Adkison led Millersville with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting and hit 5-of-11 threes. Jordan Greene added 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Millersville caused IUP to commit 18 turnovers and scored 25 points off of those miscues, IUP controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Marauders 42-21, grabbing 17 offensive rebounds and scoring 12 second chance points. The rebounding differential was key for IUP keeping the Marauders at bay. Millersville pulled within 63-55 with 5:53 left and over the next five minutes, five IUP offensive possessions were initially stopped, but offensive rebounds resulted in second chance buckets.

Millersville started quickly, racing to a 13-5 lead in the opening four minutes thanks to a pair of threes from Adkison, one from Chambers and another from Jon Lott. Millersville led by as many as eight in the first half, but a 26-8 run over the next nine minutes helped the Crimson Hawks build a 40-33 halftime lead. IUP opened the second half on a 12-2 run, making five of its first six shots. Millersville's Greene scored 11 points in the 11 minutes to help Millersville close the gap.

Anthony Glover led IUP with 27 points, hitting 10-of-10 free throws. His team made 20-of-23 at the line. Millersville went to the line just 11 times but made 10.

Millersville's next two games are on the road, first traveling to Bloomsburg on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip.
