Syracuse, New York - The Millersville women's volleyball team came up empty in Saturday's back-to-back with Adelphi and Le Moyne. Adelphi swept the Marauders by scores of 25-12, 25-21, 25-22, and Le Moyne won in four sets, 25-17, 25-11, 19-25, 25-22.
Millersville (2-7) dropped its fifth and sixth consecutive matches, four of which have come in extra sets.
The Marauders start PSAC play with a trip to Erie, Pa. They take on Gannon on Sept. 23 and Mercyhurst on Sept. 24.
ADELPHI 3, MILLERSVILLE 0
Erin Harman totaled 12 kills to just two errors and added eight digs and three service aces, but a slow start to the opening set doomed the Marauders. In the 25-12 first-set loss, Millersville managed seven kills to 11 errors. Adelphi scored the first eight points of the set.
Millersville stayed close in sets two and three. The teams were knotted at 21-21 in set two before Stephanie Milillo recorded back-to-back aces and Amalia Saleh closed the set with a kill. In the third, Millersville and Adelphi were tied at 22. Mandy Stanislovaitis broke the tie with a kill, Katherine Ferris recorded a service ace, and the match ended on a Marauder attack error.
Millersville hit .084 compared to Adelphi's .248. Adelphi totaled 40 kills to 12 errors.
LE MOYNE 3, MILLERSVILLE 1
Le Moyne (9-3) built a 2-0 lead with convincing set wins by scores of 25-17 and 25-11. The Marauders bounced back in set three behind a strong attack. Harman drilled five kills on five swings, and
Kara Wirt and
Kelsi Ceriani added three apiece.
Lexy Coldsmith picked served up a pair of the Marauders' four aces.
Le Moyne cranked up its attack in the deciding fourth set, however. Jessica Miller and Natalie Casson combined for nine kills and two errors, and after breaking a 6-6 tie by scoring four consecutive points, the Dolphins led by at least four the rest of the way.
Harman totaled 12 kills and three errors on 38 attacks. She also totaled 11 digs for a double-double.
Grace Dawson posted 35 assists.
