Marauders fall to Saint Rose in four

Syracuse, New York - Friday night's women's volleyball match between Millersville and Saint Rose started promisingly for the Marauders. The visiting Marauders jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-20 first-set win. But Saint Rose won the next three sets, handing the Marauders their fourth consecutive defeat, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-14.

Of Millersville's (2-5) five losses, four have come in extra sets. Friday's match saw the Marauders hit .091 and commit 10 service errors to just three service aces. Saint Rose tallied 50 kills to Millersville's 37. Marauder freshman Haley Butler posted 12 kills to just one error. Erin Harman also totaled 12 kills and led the team with 19 digs.

The Marauders opened the match with a come-from-behind win in the opening set. Saint Rose led 14-13, but Butler tied the set with a kill. Saint Rose committed five consecutive errors, and Kelsi Ceriani added a kill to boost Millersville's lead to 20-15. Of Millersville's final five points, three came on Harman kills. Saint Rose totaled nine attack errors in the set.

Saint Rose wouldn't repeat that performance, however. In set two, the home team led 17-16 after a Butler kill for the Marauders. But Saint Rose scored four points in a row and pulled away for the 25-20 win. It was a similar story in the third set with Saint Rose holding a one point advantage at 14-13. Saint Rose, however, scored seven of the next eight points. Four of the points were scored on Marauders' errors.

Saint Rose scored the first six points of the final set, and after Millersville scored its first point, it never came within four points of Saint Rose the rest of the way.

Millersville stays in New York over the weeked and faces Adelphi on Saturday.
