Lock Haven, Pa. - Millersville baseball's fourth consecutive PSAC Eastern Division Championship was followed Thursday with top honors from the conference's coaches and nine Marauders named All-PSAC East. Coach Jon Shehan was voted the division coach of the year for the third time in his career, junior Brandon Miller was named PSAC East Co-Pitcher of the Year, and Cordell Shannon scored the freshman of the year award.
The nine honorees were the most for any team in the PSAC regardless of division and the most all-time for Millersville. Shannon became the Marauders' first freshman of the year since Derek Kline in 2008, and Miller, who shared the top pitcher award with Matt Festa of East Stroudsburg, gave Millersville claim to the award for a fourth consecutive season. Miller, a first team selection, was joined by Mitch Stoltzfus (catcher), Dan Stoltzfus (first base), Chas McCormick (outfield), Jeremy Musser (outfield) and Tyler Orris (infield). Second team selections included Reid Anderson (starting pitcher), Jim McDade (starting pitcher) and Mike Mock (relief pitcher). All four of Millersville's weekend starters were recognized by the league.
Shehan previously won the PSAC East Coach of the Year award in 2008 and 2011. The 2016 PSAC East title marked the sixth in Shehan's nine seasons as the Marauder boss. Millersville garnered the program's first-ever No. 1 national ranking during the season and won a program record 44 regular season games.
Miller follows in the footsteps of three-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Year Chris Murphy. Miller went 9-1 in 11 starts, posting five complete games and ranking second in the PSAC in innings (74 2/3), third in strikeouts (84), second in batting average against (.163) and walked just seven batters all season.
Shannon, the division's top rookie, ranked 11th in the league with 63.0 innings pitched, posting a 7-1 record and 2.86 ERA. He struck out 49 and walked just 16. He also set the Millersville freshman record for wins in a season.
Leading the first team was Mitch Stoltzfus, who became the first Marauder catcher named All-PSAC East since Miles Gallagher in 2010 and the first first team pick since Shehan in 2005. Stoltzfus led Division II in hitting for a period of time during the season and finished the regular season hitting .430. He ranked third in RBIs with 57 and 11th in slugging percentage (.669). Dan Stoltzfus was also among the league's top sluggers, hitting .415 with a league-best 18 doubles and 54 RBIs. D. Stoltzfus was a first team selection in 2015 as well.
Musser returned to the All-PSAC East awards for the first time since his freshman season of 2013 when he was a second team pick. Musser ranked eighth in the PSAC in on base percentage (.498), hit .383 with six homers and 48 RBIs. McCormick picked up his third career All-PSAC East honor and second consecutive first team selection after hitting .397 with nine doubles, four triples and 25 stolen bases. He ranked sixth in steals and fifth in hits. No other Marauder has been an All-PSAC East selection in each of his first three seasons.
Orris, recognized on the first team as an infielder, picked up his second career PSAC East honor and first on the first team. Orris led all PSAC shortstops in fielding percentage (.973) and also hit .393 with the fourth-most steals (26). Orris' 53 runs ranked 10th in the league.
