Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team defeated Bloomsburg 5-2 Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament.
The Marauders are among the final four teams in the PSAC for the first time since 2013 after scoring its second win of the season over the Huskies. The Marauders improved to 8-11 on the season with the win.
The Marauders opened with a 2-1 lead after the No. 1 doubles team
Sarah Sambrick and
Nicole Daacke and the No. 3 team of
Kelley Hershey and
Kimberly Theophile scored wins. Millersville entered singles needing just three points to clinch the victory.
Sambrick picked up her 10th win of the season by defeating Gabriele Bachinski, 6-2, 6-1.
Tori Davis rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 3 slot, and Theophile put the finishing touches on the playoff win with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Catherine Garrity in the No. 4 flight.
The Marauders now face a stiff challenge in the semifinals. Nine-time defending champion and the region's No. 1-ranked California Vulcans await. The semifinal is set for April 29 in Bloomsburg with the championship set for April 30.
