Marauders Top Nationally Ranked Lock Haven

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville University women's lacrosse team kept its playoff hopes alive Wednesday by defeating 13th-ranked Lock Haven, 10-6. Bridget Hufnagel led Millersville with five goals while Sabrina Fusco netted three. Abby Mack scored one goal and registered two assists to tie her with Hannah Vogel for most assists in Marauder history (61). Bryana Weston-Wyatt stood tall, making seven crucial saves to help lift Millersville to the victory.

Hufnagel wasted no time starting the scoring, tallying the first two goals of the game. The Marauders jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Millersville stymied the Lock Haven attack early, not allowing the Bald Eagles reach their offensive side of the field until 11 minutes into the first half. Millersville would jump out to a commanding 5-0 lead before Lock Haven finally got on the board with 11:39 to play in the first half. The Bald Eagles scored three unanswered to cut the lead to 5-3 before Mack would strike to give Millersville a 6-3 at halftime.

Fusco started the scoring in the second half as she cashed in on one of Mack's two assists. Lock Haven, however, scored three goals in a row to cut the deficit to 7-6. Hufnagel responded, scoring the next two goals to give Millersville a 9-6 lead before Fusco tacked on one in the waning seconds to give Millersville a 10-6 victory.

The Marauders improved to 10-6 (6-5 PSAC) while the Bald Eagles fell to 13-3 (8-3 PSAC). The Marauders are still in the playoff hunt as the PSAC enters the final weekend of play. The top six teams make the conference playoff,s and Millersville remained in sixth after their win Wednesday. Millersville is one game behind East Stroudsbug for fifth and owns the tiebreaker over the Warriors. Seton Hill and Slippery Rock sit at seventh and eighth respectively, but both hold a tiebreaker over the Marauders. Slippery Rock hosts Mercyhurst Wednesday (April 20) at 7 p.m. while the Griffins do not play until Friday when they travel to Kutztown. Seton Hill and Slippery Rock end the PSAC regular season Tuesday when the teams square off in Greensburg. Millersville travels to Gannon Saturday to end its regular season.
