Shepherdstown, W.Va. - Fueled by a career-high seven goals from senior
Bridget Hufnagel, the Millersville women's lacrosse team matched a season high for goals scored in a 20-16 road win over non-conference foe Shepherd Tuesday.
The Marauders improved to 9-5 with the win and secured a winning season with three games left on the schedule. Hufnagel's seven goals boosted her season total to 62 points, which ranks 10th in program history.
Sabrina Fusco scored four goals Tuesday, lifting her season points total to 51. Hufnagel and Fusco are two of only eight players in program history to total 50 points in back-to-back seasons. Fusco is the first player to do so in her first two seasons.
Millersville never trailed, scoring the game's first three goals.
Jamie Damirgian, who scored the game's first goal, scored with three seconds left in the first half to give the Marauders an 11-7 lead. Hufnagel scored twice to start the second, opening Millersville's lead to six. The Marauders led by as many as seven before Shepherd scored four in a row mid-way through the period. The Marauders kept a no fewer than three points separation the rest of the way, though.
Damirgian finished with a season-high four goals, and
Abby Mack continued to pile up assists. She totaled three, giving her 15 in her last three games. Millersville picked up a season-high 27 ground balls.
Millersville, which stands 5-4 in PSAC play, have only three regular season games remaining--all against conference opponents. The Marauders currently sit in a tie for sixth and are 1 1/2 games clear of Slippery Rock and two ahead of Gannon. Millersville is looking for its first PSAC Tournament berth since 2001. The Marauders travel to Slippery Rock on April 16.
