Raleigh, N.C. – The Millersville softball team picked up a pair of victories on Saturday to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Marauder offense exploded as they picked up a 13-4 win over Virginia State.
Cassidy Pinchorski tossed a shutout in the 4-0 victory over Bowie State.
Senior
Brianna Andraos (2-0) picked up the victory on the mound against Virginia State. The Marauder offense came alive early scoring a combined six runs in the first two innings. Earning RBI's at the dish in the first inning were
Kelsey Campbell,
Raeann Buskey and
Maria Spinosa. Campbell spearheaded the Millersville offensive output in the second inning driving in another run along with
Brittany Smith and
Maggie Murphy.
Millersville tagged the Trojan bullpen in the seventh inning scoring another seven runs ensuring the 13-4 win.
Megan McCurdy and
Mandy Hammond slashed back-back two-run doubles within the seventh. Hammond finished with two hits, two runs and two RBI's.
Cassidy Pinchorski threw a gem in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader against Bowie State. Pinchorski (1-1) tossed seven innings, allowed three hits, struck out five and only allowed one walk on the bump.
The score remained 0-0 until the fifth inning when
Mandy Hammond ripped triple that scored Spinosa. Millersville added to its 2-0 lead in the sixth on three consecutive doubles from
Maggie Smith,
Melanie Snyder and Spinosa. The senior shortstop finished 3-for-3 with a single, two doubles and a run. Hammond was also perfect at the plate with two singles and a triple.
Millersville continues play at the Shaw Invitational Sunday against Wayne State and Chowan.
