Bloomsburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team opened PSAC Eastern Division play Friday at Bloomsburg and scored a 6-3 win over the Huskies.
The win was Millersville's first over Bloomsburg since 2013 and just the second in the last 14 match-ups. The Marauders improved to 2-8 overall (1-0 PSAC East) while Bloomsburg fell to 0-4.
Millersville captured two points in doubles action, getting wins from the No. 2 team of
Tori Davis and
Kaylora Thompson (9-8 (10-4)) and the No. 3 duo of
Kelley Hershey and
Kimberly Theophile (8-4).
In singles action, No. 1 player and freshman Sarah Sambrick scored a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gabriele Bachniski.
Nicole Daacke scored a hard-fought 7-6 (10-3), 6-3 win in the No. 2 slot, and Davis followed with a 7-6 (10-4), 2-6, 10-7 victory in the No. 3 flight. Thompson rounded out Millersville's scoring a 7-6 (10-5), 6-3 win over Meredith Endy in the No. 5 position.
Millersville aims for a 2-0 start to PSAC East play on March 29 at Cheyney. The Marauders play five consecutive road matches before returning home on Apri 12.
