N. Myrtle Beach S.C. – The Millersville softball team lost an extra inning affair against Reinhardt and scored in every inning but one as it out-slugged Roosevelt University, 13-10.
Millersville (8-5) had a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the third against Roosevelt and broke the game wide open scoring eight runs within the inning. The Marauders batted through the lineup combining for five hits in the innings.
Mandy Hammond started the inning with a single and scored along with
Brittany Smith on a
Kelsey Campbell single. Freshman
Jaynie Black smacked a two-RBI single to center field that scored Campbell and Raeanne Buskey. Siena Gyure lost control on the mound for Roosevlet and walked
Heather Lutz that scored Megan Yoder. Hammond beat out an infield single that scored
Jaynie Black and
Brittany Smith followed it up with a double down the left field line that plated home another two runs.
Roosevelt roared back in the top of the fourth with five runs cutting the Marauder advantage to 10-6. Millersville came right back with a run of its own in the fourth. The Lakers matched that tally in the fifth, only to watch the Marauders answer with two more in the bottom of the inning to build its lead to 13-7.
The Lakers mounted one final charge in the seventh, capitalizing on three Millersville errors to score three runs. Roosevelt was unable to get the tying run to the plate as
Maggie Smith worked out of the jam to close out the game.
The Marauders fell 7-6 to Reinhardt in the ninth inning, but no stats were immediately available.
Millersville finishes the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic with a 5-1 record and improve to 8-5 overall on the season. The Marauders square off with Catawba for a doubleheader before returning home from spring break.
