N. Myrtle Beach S.C. – The Millersville softball team picked up a pair of 1-0 victories on Thursday as part of a doubleheader in the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic.
Brianna Andraos and
Cassidy Pinchorski combined to pitch 14 innings of shutout ball against the likes of Ohio Valley in game one and Clarion in the nightcap. Millersville improves to 7-5 on the season and have won four-straight in the Carolina's.
Andraos (3-3) was on the bump against Ohio Valley and scattered five hits across her seven innings of work. The senior struck out two Fighting Scot hitters and lowered her ERA to 1.62 on the season, which ranks 10
th best in the PSAC.
Ohio Valley out-hit Millersville by a 5-4 margin, but the Marauders put together the most advantageous scoring effort in the top of the third inning.
Jaynie Black worked her way on by a hit by pitch and subsequently advanced to second on a
Megan Hallock sacrifice. Two batters later
Mandy Hammond slapped a double to left field that scored Black from second. Andraos worked out of trouble in the fifth and sixth innings to preserve the 1-0 victory.
The Millersville offence manufactured a second inning run as it proved to be enough for
Cassidy Pinchorski who held Clarion to three hits in the shutout victory. Pinchorski struckout a season-high nine batters against the Golden Eagles.
Millersville began the bottom of the second inning with a
Kelsey Campbell walk.
Maria Spinosa followed it up with a sacrifice bunt down the third base line. Campbell then stole third base before scoring on a Rachel Hoffman wild pitch. The Marauders finished with five hits and were led by
Mandy Hammond who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Hammond's 3-for-5 afternoon improved her batting average to .500 on the season, which ranks 10
th best in the conference. Hammond is 7-for-11 in Millersville's four consecutive victories.
The Marauders return to action tomorrow when they play Reinhardt University and Roooevelt University to conclude action in Myrtle Beach. Millersville will play a doubleheader with Catawba before returning back to campus from its Spring Break trip.
