Adkison's 32 sparks Marauders to road win

California, Pennsylvania. - Midway through the second half of Sunday's PSAC crossover at California, the Millersville men's basketball team was in an all-too-familiar situation. A second half lead had dwindled and the Marauders were facing a fourth loss in as many road games. But that's when Millersville's defense started creating turnovers, and Marcus Adkison continued splashing threes. The sophomore guard, who finished with 32 points, scored 10 points in the final 10 minutes, and Millersville topped California, 78-74.

Adkison led four Marauders in double figures. His 32 was a career-high, and for the second time in seven games, he came within one of the program's record for threes in a game, hitting 9-of-16. He has scored at least 22 points in four consecutive games, averaging 26.8 points per game and scoring the most points in a four-game stretch since Reggie Bates totaled 113 in 2007. Jon Lott scored a career-high 13 points and handed out four assists. Conrad Chambers added 11, and Cornell Yarde II scored 10.

Millersville (4-3, 3-1 PSAC) had led in the second half in all three of its previous away games. The Marauders led Sunday's game 42-38 at halftime behind 16 first half points from Adkison. But with 11:49 left in the game, Millersville trailed 60-56 and had allowed the Vulcans to make nine of its first 14 shots. After a Markeith Mont free throw, Adkison drilled back-to-back threes and the Marauders led for the final nine minutes. Adkison made three threes while the Marauders outscored the Vulcans 21-14 in the final 10 minutes.

The Marauders' defense generated four of Cal's nine turnovers in that span, including a key Adkison steal while the Marauders nursed a 74-70 lead with 2:07 remaining. Millersville committed just five turnovers--the fewest by a Marauder club since Jan. 9, 2010.

By making 12-of-33 3-pointers, Millersville improved to 4-0 when sinking at least 10 3-pointers. Six of Millersville's seven opponents have been limited to no more than 74 points.

The Marauders travel to Slippery Rock on Dec. 10 before taking an extended break for the holiday season.
