GAME OVERVIEW
• Millersville returns to the court Friday for the first time in 20 days and play its first home game in more than a month. The Marauders are 4-4 overall--just one win shy of topping the 2015-16 win total--and 3-0 at home. While they have lost three of the last four, the Marauders have allowed more than 74 points just once all season and three of the four losses have been by eight points or fewer.
• Millersville is shooting 48.3 percent from three at home and 35.3 percent on the road. Similarly, it is allowing teams to shoot 46.7 percent from the field in away games but just 41.3 percent in Pucillo Gymnasium.
• Of Millersville's four wins in 2015-16, two came against Mansfield. The Marauders have won five in a row over the Mountaineers dating back to 2014, but Mansfield won 10 of 11 before the recent Millersville run. Expect a close game. Seven of the last eight and 14 of the last 18 have been decided by single digits.
• Goldey-Beacom holds a 5-2 lead in the all-time series dating back to 2009, but Millersville has won each of the last two games played at Pucillo Gymnasium (2014, 2012). Both wins at home have come by 12 points. The two teams met in the 2016-17 season opener with Goldey-Beacom shooting 54.1 percent from the field. No other Marauder opponent has shot over 50 percent this season.
• Millersville is the PSAC's best 3-point shooting team and among the best at defending against the three. At 41 percent, Millersville is one of three teams in the league to shoot over 40 percent from three.
Marcus Adkison ranks fourth at 46.8 percent and
Conrad Chambers ranks 10th (.429). Millersville and Kutztown are the only two teams in the league with two players in the top 10. On defense, the Marauders are holding teams to 33.1 percent with a league-low 45 3-pointers made and a league-low 136 attempts. The issue is interior defense, where the Marauders have allowed 49.1 percent shooting inside three and have blocked just nine shots, which is nine fewer than any other team in the PSAC.
• Senior
Tommy Patterson is expected to return to the lineup Friday, and he should improve the Marauders' inside game. Patterson missed the first eight games with a hand injury but is the team's most veteran player, having 56 games played and 34 starts to his credit. He led the team in blocked shots last season with 19 and has 37 in two seasons.
• There is no sophomore slump for
Jon Lott, only improvement. Lott is the team's leader with 3.0 assists per game and has committed just 14 turnovers, placing him 12th in the PSAC in assist/turnover ratio. As a freshman, Lott totaled 55 turnovers to 42 assists. Lott is also tied for the team lead in steals with nine, having recorded at least one steal in five consecutive games. He's also been hitting the glass lately, averaging 6.2 over his last five games. Lott is the team's leader in plus/minus, averaging +6.91 per 40 minutes and +4.62 per game. Only three players on the team have a positive plus/minus, and
Marcus Adkison is second at +2.62 per game.
SCOUTING MANSFIELD
• Pat Zipfel coached under the interim tag in 2015-16, and Mansfield posted a 6-21 record. The Mountaineers are off to a 4-4 start and opened the season by defeating Duquesne in exhibition action. Friday is the team's first game since losing 82-69 at IUP on Dec. 10. Six of the team's eight games have been played away from home, posting a 3-2 record in true road games. Mansfield allows opponents to shoot 38.3 percent from three while converting 28 percent offensively. Junior forward Matt Tamanosky will be a match-up problem for the Marauders inside. He's averaging 17.1 ppg and shooting 62 percent from the field.
SCOUTING GOLDEY-BEACOM
• Goldey-Beacom recently had its six-game winning streak snapped at Wilmington but is a potent offensive club under first-year head coach T.J. Dekmar. The Lightning hold a 7.1 scoring margin and force 17.3 turnovers per game. Four players average in double figures, led by Elijah Tillman at 13.6. The team's only two losses to Division II teams came against Philadelphia and Wilmington.
