Millersville, Pennsylvania - The Millersville women's basketball team outscored USciences in the first three quarters, but a 19-12 fourth quarter propelled the Devils to a victory at Pucillo Court.
Alayah Hall led the way with 15 points for the Marauders while
Celeste Robinson made an immediate impact in her return, scoring 13 points in the loss. The All-PSAC player, Robinson had been out since the second game of the season due to injury.
Millersville was plagued by foul trouble however, with three of their top four scorers registering four fouls (Hall, Robinson, Van Brakle). Freshman
Courtney Dimoff scored in double figures for her second consecutive game, going 3-4 from three point range with 10 points total while senior
Aunjel Van Brakle checked in with eight points and four rebounds. USciences had three players reach double-digits including Sarah Abbonizio who led the way for the Devils with 12 points.
Abbonizio got things going with a three pointer before a pair of free throws and a bucket from Van Brakle gave Millersville its first lead of the night. After the Devils took an 8-4 lead, the Marauders responded with a 12-1 run. USciences closed the gap towards the end of the first and the Marauders took a 17-16 lead into the second.
Abbonizio began the second just like the first, nailing a three-pointer before
Jade Farquhar responed with one of her own. After a pair of buckets from
Celeste Robinson, the Marauders held a 25-21 lead but the Devils would knot the score up at 25 apiece before the Marauders took a 31-29 advantage at half.
After the Devils tied the score in the third, Millersville built up a five point lead courtesy of an
Alayah Hall steal and three free throws. The Marauders would extend the advantage to six when Dimoff hit a three pointer to make the score 41-35. Millersville looked primed to run away with the game, jumping out to a 45-35 lead with less than five minutes left in the third, but the Devils would cut the deficit to four going into the fourth.
USciences would score the first bucket of the fourth, but Dimoff hit another three to stop the momentum of the Devils and make the score 48-43 Marauders. After Millersville extended the lead to six, USciences would go on an 8-0 run and take the lead. With the scored tied at 55, the Devils hit three free throws to take a three-point lead with just over a minute to play in the game.
Alayah Hall would drive the paint and score her 15th point of the night, but USciences remained hot from the line and iced the game with a pair of free throws to top the Marauders 60-57.
Millersville now falls to 3-7 on the year (1-4 PSAC) and will host fellow PSAC opponent Mansfield Friday at 5:30 p.m.
